What you\βll be doing
In this exciting and high-impact role, you\βll take the lead on delivering LNER\βs Station Asset Management Plan (SAMP) and other major OpEx-funded projects over Β£75k β from procurement and contract management through to final handover. You\βll be at the heart of protecting and enhancing our station assets, ensuring every project meets strict time, cost, safety, and quality targets. Working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, you\βll bring together teams, align strategies, and drive results that make a real difference to our infrastructure and customer experience. Key Responsibilities
- Project Delivery:
Lead the delivery of projects in line with agreed timeframes, budgets, quality and safety standards, ensuring alignment with the Station Asset Management Plan (SAMP) and Business Plan objectives. - Project Definition & Execution:
Define project scope, prepare business cases, secure financial authority, and obtain necessary consents (Planning Permissions, Listed Buildings and Validation of Change where applicable). Manage procurement processes, contractor management including contractor engagement, project planning, regular review meetings and project updates to successful completion and handover of works. - Risk & Issue Management:
Proactively identify, track, and manage project risks and issues, resolving or escalating them promptly to avoid delays or disruptions from both a budgetary and safety perspective. - Strategic Alignment:
Ensure all project plans and activities support LNER\βs business goals, particularly those related to safety, quality, performance, and environmental sustainability. - Stakeholder Engagement:
Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, service providers, tenants, Network Rail, other Train Operating Companies (TOCs) and local authorities and other public sector organisations. - Resource Planning:
Define and manage project resource plans to ensure efficient use of organisational resources and minimise disruption to business operations. - Methodology Compliance:
Deliver projects in accordance with LNER\βs Programme and Project Methodology, ensuring consistency and governance across all work streams. - Safety & Environmental Focus:
Embed safety considerations into all project activities in line with the LNER Safety Management System, and ensure environmental objectives are factored into planning and delivery. - Customer Focus:
Consistently deliver high-quality outcomes for internal and external customers, identifying opportunities to improve the business and sharing best practices across teams and projects.
What you\βll need.
- Project Management Expertise
Proven ability to plan, define, and deliver complex asset management projects on time and within budget, with a strong understanding of project lifecycle and governance. - Risk & Issue Management
Skilled in identifying, tracking, and mitigating risks and issues, with the ability to escalate appropriately and maintain momentum across programmes. - Strategic Planning
Experience in developing long-term asset risk registers and prioritising works within a rolling 10-year programme, aligned with business strategy. - Business Case Development
Ability to prepare and present compelling business cases, working closely with Finance, Procurement, and senior stakeholders to secure approvals. - Stakeholder Engagement
Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of building effective relationships across internal teams and external partners including contractors, Network Rail, councils, and tenants. - Cross-Functional Collaboration
Comfortable working across departments to align project deliverables with Property\βs strategy, LNER\βs methodology, and wider business goals. - Safety & Environmental Awareness
Deep understanding of safety management systems and environmental policy integration within project planning and execution. - Leadership & Communication
Demonstrates a positive leadership style, encourages two-way communication, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement. - Education & Qualifications
Degree or higher-level business qualification preferred. Formal project management certification (e.g. PRINCE2, APM, PMP) is desirable. - Industry Experience
Minimum of 3 years\β experience in delivering projects, ideally within a rail or infrastructure environment. - Customer Focus
Enthusiastic approach to delivering value for internal and external customers, with a commitment to service excellence.
