Mandeville School are looking for a passionate and career driven candidate to join their busy team. If you are looking to gain experience in a supporting role in the classroom whilst working towards a level 3 qualification then this is the ideal position for you.

Your role will include working under the specific supervision, instruction and guidance of the class teacher to support the teaching and learning activities in the classroom.

Working week: Monday to Friday - term time only, 32.5 hours per week total. Daily hours to be confirmed. Wage: £7.55 per hour, rising to National Minimum Wage after 12 months if over 19.

Qualification: Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship (SEN Pathway) Level 3

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support for pupils: Work with individuals and groups of pupils to deliver learning programmes and engage pupils in learning, taking into account their individual needs.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher, which may include participating in physical activities.
  • Have knowledge of complex special needs and use appropriate programmes such as Makaton and Team Teach.
  • Recognise communication difficulties and use alternative communication techniques if required.
  • Work closely with other professionals and follow their designed programme for individual pupils.
  • Assist with the general pastoral care of pupils, including helping those who are unwell, distressed or unsettled.

Support for the teacher:

  • Prepare and maintain basic classroom resources and equipment as directed by the class teacher.
  • Prepare the classroom for lessons, ensuring that resources are available and cleared away at the end of the lesson.
  • Provide regular feedback to teachers and other professionals on pupils' engagement, achievement and progress.
  • Administer and mark routine tests under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • Provide general clerical support to the teacher as required.

Support for the school:

  • Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security.
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson time during the school day.
  • Work in an environment with varied intensity of demands from pupils.
  • Plan, prepare and accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities.

Support for the curriculum:

  • Assist with the development of basic literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
  • Support the development of the school curriculum and approaches.
  • Undertake broadly similar duties commensurate with the level of the post as required by the Head Teacher.
