Based in Lambourn, Berkshire, we are an independent, fully mobile equine veterinary practice serving clients across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Gloucestershire.
Our experienced team supports horses across a wide range of disciplines, including sport horses, leisure horses, racing and reproductive work. We are committed to maintaining outstanding client relationships while ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our busy ambulatory practice.
We are seeking a motivated and organised Veterinary Reception & Business Support Apprentice to join our friendly and supportive team. This role is ideal for someone who is confident, professional, eager to learn and interested in developing a career within the equine veterinary or business administration sector.
Apprenticeship Summary
- Salary: £7.55 an hour
- Working Week: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8am – 5pm, Wednesday and Friday 8:30am – 5:30pm including a 1 hour break
- Hours: 40 hours per week

The Role
As a Veterinary Reception & Business Support Apprentice, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of a busy equine veterinary practice. Working closely with veterinary surgeons and administrative staff, you will assist with client communication, diary management, laboratory coordination, and general office administration.
This role offers valuable exposure to the equine veterinary industry while developing strong business, communication and organisational skills within a professional clinical environment.
Main Duties
- Provide professional and polite telephone support, acting as second-line call cover
- Record accurate messages and ensure timely follow-up with clients
- Manage call-back slots and support client query resolution
- Assist with diary management, including checking travel times and appointment spacing
- Support efficient routing and scheduling of veterinary visits
- Handle incoming and outgoing post
- Scan and process documentation, including certificates and export paperwork
- Support with vetting certificates and ensure accurate record-keeping
- Complete weekly pager tests
- Monitor shared communication channels (email inboxes, WhatsApp groups, internal systems) to ensure smooth information flow
- Assist with internal vet tech duties when required
- Support laboratory workflow and liaise with colleagues to maintain efficiency
- Assist the pharmacy administrator with medication and stock-related administration
- Process payments, invoices and insurance documentation
- Maintain organised, accurate and confidential client and patient records
- Keep the office environment tidy and professional
- Uphold company policies, confidentiality standards and professional conduct at all times
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- GCSEs at grades A*–C / 9–4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Confidence when communicating, particularly over the telephone
- A calm and professional manner in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when handling information
- A positive attitude and genuine willingness to learn
- Reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a small, close-knit team
- Professional conduct and discretion when handling confidential information
- An interest in horses or the veterinary sector (desirable)
Training And Development
As an apprentice, you will receive support through both on-the-job learning and formal training as part of your apprenticeship programme. This will typically include:
- Study towards a relevant qualification, Level 3 Business Administration Diploma.
- On-the-job training and mentoring from experienced professionals.
- Regular review meetings to track progress and development.
