Business Administrator Apprenticeship at VTC Independent School

VTC is a unique, alternative provision school for young people aged 12–18 with social, emotional, mental health needs. Many of the students have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.

At VTC, they don’t just support them academically, they help shape their futures with a mix of personalised education, vocational training (including engineering), outdoor wellbeing sessions, and meaningful community projects.

Apprenticeship Overview:

  • Salary:£7.55 an hour,Automatic salary increase after 1 year of apprenticeship for those who are 19+
  • Working Week:Monday to Friday 9 am till 3:30 pm with a 30-minute lunch break
  • Hours:30 hours per week
  • Duration:16 months

This is a cool, fast-paced front-of-house role where every day is different. You’ll be the first point of contact for parents, carers, and visitors, while also working closely with students and staff in a flexible, high-energy environment. It’s not your average admin job, you’ll be part of the school community and will play an active role in helping young people stay on track.

We\’re looking for someone confident, grounded, and full of common sense. Someone who’s not afraid to jump in, build positive relationships with students, and be a steady presence around the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Warmly welcome visitors, parents, and carers at the front desk
  • Answer calls with empathy and professionalism, supporting both parents and students
  • Register students in daily and maintain accurate attendance records
  • Move around classrooms, engaging with students in a calm, consistent way
  • Have casual but meaningful chats with young people to build rapport
  • Model positive behaviour—correct language use when needed, and always be respectful
  • Take clear and confidential notes as required
  • Provide general admin and clerical support to staff and leadership
  • Draft documents and correspondence to a high standard
  • Support with document creation, post, email inboxes, and other communication duties
  • Maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding at all time

  • Ideally a full driving licence and access to a vehicle(desirable, but not essential)

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful candidate will obtain a Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship standard qualification

Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Potential full-time employment for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship

Pre-employment checks. Please be aware that upon a successful offer of employment, the company completes digitalised right-to-work checks and DBS applications via an external provider – \’Matrix Screening\’. The company also completes an internal online social media search, in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.
