Back with another brilliant position, LMOceans are pleased to be able to present a senior opportunity for a highly skilled Principal Engineering Geologist, to join a world-class offshore design team.
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Principal Engineering Geologist to lead and support our clients geotechnical and geological activities within their offshore and marine project portfolios. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering technically robust, commercially sound and operationally practical solutions across a range of offshore developments, including offshore wind farms, subsea infrastructure, and marine energy assets.
This role demands a professional with a deep understanding of offshore ground conditions, proven experience in offshore asset design, and the ability to integrate geological insight into multi-disciplinary project environments. Experience in developing and delivering complex integrated ground models will be considered a significant advantage.
Technical Leadership- Lead the planning, execution and interpretation of offshore and nearshore ground investigations.
- Provide expert geological and geotechnical input to the design of offshore structures, including wind turbine foundations, cables, and subsea infrastructure.
- Develop and manage integrated ground models that combine geophysical, geotechnical and geological datasets to support design and risk assessment.
- Contribute to geohazard assessments, sedimentological interpretations, and soil-structure interaction analyses.
- Oversee data acquisition, processing and quality assurance for offshore geotechnical and geophysical surveys.
- Ensure that all technical outputs meet the highest industry standards and comply with relevant codes, regulations, and client specifications.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff and project teams.
- Take responsibility for technical and financial performance of assigned projects, ensuring delivery within scope, time and budget.
- Support tender preparation, bid writing and client engagement during the proposal stage.
- Manage project risk, change control and resource allocation in collaboration with project managers.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency within project delivery.
- Build strong, effective relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders across a range of disciplines.
- Communicate complex geological concepts clearly and confidently to non-specialist audiences.
- Represent the company in technical meetings, workshops, and industry events.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive and safety-focused team culture.
- Degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or Earth Sciences (postgraduate qualification desirable).
- Chartered status (e.g. CGeol, CEng, or equivalent professional accreditation).
- Minimum of 10 years’ relevant professional experience, with substantial experience in offshore or marine environments.
- Demonstrable experience in the design and development of offshore assets (e.g. offshore wind farms, substations, subsea pipelines, or similar).
- Proven track record of managing and delivering complex geotechnical or geological projects.
- Strong understanding of offshore ground investigation techniques, geohazard assessment, and soil behaviour under marine loading conditions.
- Experience in the delivery of complex integrated ground models that combine multiple datasets to inform design and risk management would be highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with relevant offshore and geotechnical design standards (e.g. ISO 19901, DNV, Eurocode 7).
- Experience with geotechnical numerical modelling and data interpretation software (e.g. PLAXIS, gINT, GIS, Petrel).
- Knowledge of foundation design for monopiles, jackets, and suction caissons.
- Commercial acumen and the ability to balance technical quality with client and business priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentation.
- Self-motivated, adaptable and capable of working effectively in dynamic, multi-disciplinary teams.
