The Opportunity

On behalf of our client, we are very proud to present this exclusive opportunity. We are seeking a recognised Geophysical Technical Authority with an established reputation within the offshore and marine geoscience sector. This is a rare opportunity for an industry-leading geophysicist to shape technical strategy, influence major offshore developments and provide expert guidance across a diverse portfolio of projects spanning Offshore Wind, Oil & Gas, subsea infrastructure and the wider energy transition landscape. Our client, a highly regarded international engineering firm, is recognised for delivering complex marine site characterisation, geophysical investigation and offshore development solutions to their clients worldwide.

We are looking for an individual who is viewed as a trusted technical advisor within the industry; someone capable of providing authoritative guidance, driving technical excellence and influencing decision-making at the highest engineering level. While a strong Offshore Wind pedigree would be highly desirable, our client is equally keen to engage with candidates who have built their reputation within Oil & Gas, marine infrastructure, subsea cables, carbon capture and storage (CCS), ports and harbours, defence, or other various offshore development sectors.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping technical strategy, maintaining the highest standards of technical assurance and supporting the continued growth of a market-leading offshore geoscience capability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the organisation's recognised technical authority for offshore geophysics and marine site characterisation.
  • Provide expert guidance on the planning, acquisition, processing and interpretation of offshore geophysical datasets.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, project teams and senior stakeholders on geophysical risk, marine geohazards and site characterisation strategies.
  • Lead technical assurance, peer review and governance activities across major offshore projects.
  • Influence technical standards, methodologies and best-practice approaches across the business.
  • Support the development of investigation strategies for offshore wind farms, subsea cable routes, pipelines, offshore infrastructure and wider marine developments.
  • Drive innovation and the adoption of emerging technologies within offshore geophysics and marine geoscience.
  • Represent the business externally through industry engagement, conference presentations, technical publications and client-facing activities.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to geophysicists and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Support business development initiatives by contributing technical expertise to bids, proposals and strategic client discussions.

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate is likely to be recognised within the industry as a subject matter expert and thought leader in offshore geophysics, with a proven track record of influencing major offshore developments and providing technical leadership on complex projects. Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience within offshore and marine geophysics.
  • A strong reputation for technical excellence and sound professional judgement.
  • Demonstrable experience acting as a technical authority, discipline lead, technical director or principal consultant within an offshore environment.
  • Deep expertise in offshore site characterisation and geophysical interpretation.
  • Significant experience with geophysical survey techniques, including: Multibeam bathymetry, Side scan sonar, Sub-bottom profiling, Magnetometer surveys, Ultra-high-resolution seismic methods, Geohazard identification and assessment.
  • A comprehensive understanding of marine ground model development and the integration of geophysical and geotechnical datasets.
  • Experience reviewing and assuring high-value technical deliverables.
  • The ability to communicate complex technical matters effectively to clients, regulators, project teams and executive stakeholders.

Desirable Experience:

  • A strong pedigree within the Offshore Wind sector, including development, construction or operational phases.
  • Experience supporting Oil & Gas exploration, development or decommissioning projects.
  • Exposure to subsea cable, interconnector, pipeline or marine infrastructure developments.
  • Knowledge of carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen, offshore renewables or other energy transition projects.
  • Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • A recognised profile within the offshore geoscience community through publications, conference presentations, industry committees or technical leadership activities.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Geophysics, Geology, Earth Sciences, Marine Geoscience or a related discipline.
  • MSc or PhD desirable but not essential.

Personal Attributes:

  • Recognised technical expert with strong industry credibility.
  • Respected by peers and clients for technical knowledge and professional integrity.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to influence technical direction and business outcomes.
  • Collaborative leader who enjoys mentoring and developing technical talent.
  • Commercially aware with a strong client-focused mindset.
  • Passionate about advancing technical excellence and innovation within offshore geoscience.

Why This Opportunity?
