The Role

The successful candidate will manage and support a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses, limited companies, sole traders and partnerships. The role will include the preparation and review of accounts and tax returns for both UK and Republic of Ireland clients, with a particular focus on strengthening our growing Irish accounts and tax offering. You will work closely with clients, provide practical accounting and tax support, and help ensure that all statutory and Revenue deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for limited companies.
  • Preparing accounts for sole traders and partnerships.
  • Preparing and reviewing corporation tax returns.
  • Preparing and reviewing personal tax returns where required.
  • Preparing and reviewing UK and Republic of Ireland VAT returns.
  • Assisting with Relevant Contracts Tax registrations, notifications, deductions and returns.
  • Supporting Republic of Ireland clients with Revenue registrations and compliance.
  • Managing deadlines for Companies House, HMRC, CRO and Irish Revenue submissions.
  • Reviewing bookkeeping records and identifying any corrections required.
  • Liaising directly with clients regarding accounts, tax liabilities and filing obligations.
  • Advising clients on day-to-day accounting and tax matters.
  • Identifying tax planning and advisory opportunities.
  • Supporting and reviewing work completed by junior members of the team.
  • Helping to improve internal processes, checklists and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate client records and delivering a high standard of client service.
  • Working closely with the directors and wider accounts team.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • A recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts and corporation tax returns.
  • Experience managing or supporting a portfolio of owner-managed businesses.
  • Practical experience of Republic of Ireland accounts, tax or VAT compliance.
  • Republic of Ireland experience clearly demonstrated on their CV.
  • A good understanding of VAT and general tax compliance.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience preparing accounts for both UK and Republic of Ireland companies.
  • Completion of Republic of Ireland tax examinations or relevant Irish tax training.
  • Experience preparing Irish corporation tax returns.
  • Practical knowledge of Relevant Contracts Tax.
  • Experience with Irish VAT registrations and returns.

  • Experience with Irish payroll and PAYE Modernisation.
  • Experience supporting businesses operating across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
  • Experience using Xero, BrightPay or similar cloud-based accounting software.
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior staff.

The Person

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Technically strong and comfortable working across accounts and tax.
  • Familiar with both UK and Republic of Ireland compliance.
  • Proactive, organised and able to take ownership of their work.
  • Confident communicating with clients in plain English.
  • Capable of managing competing deadlines.
  • Commercially aware and able to identify opportunities to support clients.
  • Supportive of colleagues and willing to share technical knowledge.
  • Interested in developing their Republic of Ireland tax and accounts experience.
  • Committed to delivering accurate work and excellent client service.

What We Offer

  • Salary of £45,000 - £50,000, depending on experience.
  • 31 days annual leave.
  • A varied portfolio of UK and Republic of Ireland clients.
  • The opportunity to build further experience in Irish accounts, VAT, tax and RCT.
  • A modern, digital working environment.
  • A supportive and collaborative team.
