We are recruiting for an experienced Data Integration Engineer to help shape and deliver the next phase of our data and systems integration strategy. This is an outstanding opportunity to join the organisation at an exciting time of modernisation and transformation, where you will play a key role in designing future-proof architecture, improving business processes, and enabling smarter, more efficient data flows across the enterprise.

About The Role

As our Data Integration Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain seamless integrations across a wide range of business systems. You will be responsible for building and deploying integration and infrastructure architectures to support our data estate built on Microsoft Fabric and OneLake, ensuring data platforms are AI-ready by design (well-modelled, scalable, governed, and optimised for analytics and AI consumption). You will work with integration technologies such as Boomi, MuleSoft, REST/SOAP APIs, EDI, and SFTP, and contribute directly to shaping and delivering our data strategy. This includes improving efficiency and reliability across a multi-tenancy environment and developing supportable, secure, and scalable APIs that integrate directly into Microsoft OneLake and support advanced analytics and AI use cases. Reporting to the Head of IT Infrastructure & Security, you will serve as a technical authority, providing guidance on architectural direction, best practice, and integration standards across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain integrations using Boomi, MuleSoft, and API-driven patterns.
  • Build robust, scalable REST and SOAP APIs, including reusable connectors and integration components.
  • Deliver and manage integrations into Microsoft Fabric using OneLake architecture and medallion (bronze/silver/gold) design principles.
  • Implement and support traditional EDI workflows, including mapping, transformation, and partner exchanges.
  • Manage secure SFTP-based integrations, including automation, monitoring, and exception handling.
  • Support the delivery of the organisations data strategy by designing modern, supportable integration patterns.
  • Troubleshoot integration issues across applications, networks, and cloud platforms.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, data flows, and support guides.
  • Collaborate closely with Data Architects, Data Engineers, and application teams to interpret business requirements and design efficient technical solutions.
  • Advocate best practice in integration, security, governance, and data quality.
  • Contribute to DevOps processes including version control, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployments.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Fabric and OneLake architecture.
  • Strong understanding of lakehouse / medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold).
  • Proven experience with Boomi and/or MuleSoft.
  • Strong capability in developing and consuming APIs (REST and SOAP).
  • Solid experience with traditional EDI development and B2B data-exchange patterns.
  • Strong knowledge of SFTP, secure file transfer, and automated workflows.
  • Proficient in SQL and scripting for integration and data transformation.
  • Experience with Azure integration technologies such as Data Factory, Logic Apps, or API Management.
  • Understanding of data governance, metadata, and data-quality frameworks.
  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD workflows.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with ERP/CRM integration.
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor or Datadog.

Who You Are

  • Analytical, methodical, and detail-driven.
  • Able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly organised and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Passionate about improving processes and delivering efficient, well-designed solutions.
  • Team player who can collaborate with the business and suppliers.
