The Role
This role is key to enabling the organisation’s strategic goals by providing high-quality, business focussed legal advice and support across a broad spectrum of commercial and corporate matters. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, Legal, you will work closely with the Legal Department leadership, to deliver clear, pragmatic advice on a range of legal matters across all areas of the organisation. You will partner with internal teams and senior stakeholders to drive business outcomes, anticipate and manage legal risk, and contribute to shaping a strong, pro‑active in‑house legal function.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provide accurate, practical and timely legal advice on a broad range of matters, including commercial contracts, corporate transactions, regulatory compliance (UK and overseas).
- Work collaboratively with senior leadership and other stakeholders across all functions to help deliver the Lloyd’s Strategy and provide legal and regulatory advice from an early stage or when requested, in projects and programmes.
- Identify, monitor, and mitigate legal risks associated with Lloyd’s operations.
- Communicate complex legal issues clearly and effectively to stakeholders across all levels.
- Develop and maintain legal resources, including templates and guidance documents, to improve efficiency and support the wider organisation.
- Manage multiple workstreams and priorities, ensuring timely delivery.
- Instruct and manage relationships with external legal counsel (where appropriate), ensuring cost‑effective and high‑quality support when specialist advice is required.
- Drive continuous improvement within the Legal team by constructively challenging existing ways of working, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, and removing operational friction.
- Contribute to an open and transparent culture of risk management and inclusive leadership.
