An exciting opportunity exists to join a flexible, dynamic, and motivated team within Lloyd's Register's Ship Emergency Response Service (SERS). The pioneering service, which was the first of its kind and has been in operation for more than 30 years, provides round the clock access to technical advice for the maritime community in the event of a shipboard emergency such as flooding, grounding, explosion or a loss in stability.

The role:

  • Train to participate in drills and emergencies as a member of the SERS on-call team.
  • Prepare and maintain computer models of marine assets.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response tools and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver training internally and externally.
  • Undertake consultancy projects.
  • Peer review colleagues' work.
  • Pursue continual professional development, to keep up to date with current vessel operations and technology trends.

What you bring:

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd's Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years program) or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship's officer.
  • Experience modelling vessels with NAPA and/or Seasafe.
  • Good understanding of emergency response techniques, theory and procedures.
  • The ability to pay attention to details.
  • The ability to work towards set timelines.
  • The ability to work with speed and accuracy even when under time pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills appropriate to the audience.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Demonstrated skills in coordinating projects.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution and working towards chartered status.
