As part of this role, you will further develop as a Marine or Mechanical Engineer and be part of a team that provides world-class technical investigation services to global clients by conducting engineering assessment and evaluation of systems and component failures to help ship owners and operators minimise business downtime. Using core engineering skills to identify and understand the root causes of failure, we provide customised solutions to allow recovery back to normal operation.
Reporting to the TFI Manager, key responsibilities of this role include:
- Conducting a wide range of technical investigations using computer-based analytical methods and detailed reporting.
- Performing numerical assessments and providing specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed parameters.
- Producing report deliverables in an appropriate format and reviewing other employees’ work as requested.
- Providing technical support to other Advisory service teams, including occasional on-site measurement, data acquisition and analysis assistance.
- Discussing/presenting deliverables with internal/external clients and suggesting alternative solutions where appropriate.
- Undertaking administration in line with current processes and procedures.
- Producing proposals and defining required work to satisfy client expectations.
- Assessing/recommending the time/value of work for internal/external clients within an agreed fee/cost structure.
- Making recommendations based on client feedback to assist in service delivery improvement.
- Sharing knowledge with the team and advising colleagues based on reviews and experience.
- Conducting activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursuing Continuous Professional Development and maintaining a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Mentoring/coaching other technical employees to achieve effective technical knowledge transfer.
- Undertaking project management where applicable, including monitoring project progress and spend against budget and contract requirements.
What you bring:
- A degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognised tertiary organisation.
- General knowledge of marine power plant engineering, particularly static shaft alignment analysis and dynamic response of marine propulsion shafting systems.
- Working knowledge and experience of numerical methods such as finite element (FE) and boundary element (BE) methods.
- Knowledge of linear fracture mechanics and structural reliability-based techniques would be an advantage.
- Ability to apply knowledge and experience to a wide range of technical investigations in the marine and offshore industry.
- Technical report writing skills.
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution is desirable.
- Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, LabView and FORTRAN would be an advantage.
- Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
- Eligible to live and work in the UK and meet standard visa requirements for overseas travel.
- Ability to achieve UK Naval security clearance without restrictions.
