The Technical Safety Team within the organisation’s Global Technical Support Office has a strong specialisation in design review of Technical Safety Systems for offshore and onshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries. We work with a global team of engineers, field surveyors, and clients to propose innovative solutions to problems, and advise on the time and cost of work involved. Continuous focus on professional development, actively seeking out opportunities to enhance expertise and keep skills fully up to date.

As an experienced senior engineer, you will play a key role in our team, carrying out design appraisal of complex process safety related equipment and systems, giving pragmatic advice to colleagues and clients and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

The role includes:

  • Carrying out design appraisals of offshore and onshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries technical safety arrangements and systems against Codes and Standards and Regulations and Client project requirements, within agreed parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • Providing sound technical and regulatory guidance to Clients during the design and construction phase and participating in meetings or workshops where required.
  • Performing assessments and providing specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • Applying appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems and services.
  • Assessing / recommending the time / value of the work to be undertaken for an internal / external client within an agreed fee / cost structure and within the commercial aspects of the contract.
  • Assisting the business in the bid and win process for new projects by accurately estimating time requirements for a range of projects.
  • Conducting occasional site visits at various ship yards, offshore facilities, client sites, testing laboratories, or production facilities as required to successfully complete projects.
  • Mentoring / coaching other technical employees to achieve effective technical knowledge transfer and application.
  • Management and oversight of project schedules, financial tracking, contract risk management procedures and issues plus associated project documentation and supporting compliance with all legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.

You are qualified to degree level or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science and have a degree. You should have extensive experience in a related Technical Safety area of which a large part should be in Oil & Gas Upstream and Floating Offshore Sector.

Membership of an appropriate professional institution with Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) or similar designation, or eligible and working towards such PE / CEng status is required. Knowledge of Classification / Certification / Verification and familiarity with Classification Societies (IACS) Rules is desirable.

Exposure to Consultancy, Concept / FEED / Detailed Design and EPC projects is beneficial. A working knowledge of offshore and onshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries technical safety arrangements and systems relating to the following broad technical areas: Fire & Gas Detection, Active Fire Protection, Passive Fire Protection, Cryogenic Exposure Protection, Explosion Risks & Mitigation Arrangements, Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Facilities, Technical Safety Studies is essential.

You should be able to participate in multi-disciplinary Engineering Design Reviews and provide all necessary process safety engineering input and support to close out of actions. Detailed knowledge of Active Fire Protection systems would be desirable.

Knowledge of international Codes and Standards and Rules and Regulations (e.g., LR Rules for Offshore Units, IEC Standards, IMO MODU Code, SOLAS, etc.), with a particular emphasis to technical safety related aspects is important. Experience of leading, training and developing a technical team is desirable.
