Based in Appledore, Devon, this role covers the relevant activities in that area for New Construction. Occasional work outside of this area may be required to meet business needs. The role is primarily focused on surveying New Construction activities and will be appointed at Surveyor or Senior Surveyor grade depending on experience and skills.
What We’re Looking For
- Good knowledge of New Construction activities and materials.
- Institutional and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution (I.Eng or equivalent).
- Working towards or achieving chartered or incorporated engineering status.
- Ability to work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
- Use of a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge to optimise existing and emerging technology.
- Ability to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to the analysis and solution of engineering problems.
- Provide technical and commercial leadership within the responsibilities assigned.
- Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work.

The Role
As a surveyor you will conduct relevant activities, undertake project management and provide advice for service delivery within your area of experience, adhering to budget constraints and contractual requirements. Produce deliverables to the agreed schedule, budget and quality levels within an appropriate format and take responsibility to review and monitor other employees’ work as requested. Discuss and present the deliverable with internal/external clients and be able to suggest solutions as necessary. Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards. Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness. Assess or recommend the time and value of the work to be undertaken for an external client and assist in identifying the most appropriate fee and cost structure. Mentor/coach other employees, as appropriate, to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application. Contribute to external client management; ensuring service delivery is continually improved through monitoring and acting on client feedback appropriately. Ensure the appropriate authorisations are gained and kept up to date. This may involve Activity Monitoring.
