What we’re looking for

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Lloyd's Register Technical Directorate as a Summer Intern focusing on Ship Structures. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in structural research and development relating to Lloyd's Register's future rules and procedures. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, the intern will contribute to ongoing projects aimed at enhancing the structural safety of ships. This role will report to the Team Lead Rule Development.

The role

  • Assist in conducting literature reviews and gathering relevant research materials on ship structures, materials, and construction techniques.
  • Collaborate with engineers and researchers to analyze and evaluate existing ship structures, identifying areas for improvement and innovation.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and finite element analysis (FEA) software to model and simulate ship structures, assessing their performance under various loading conditions.
  • Contribute to technical reports, presentations, and documentation summarizing research findings, methodologies, and recommendations.

What you bring

  • Working towards Degree standard having completed at least the first year.
  • Knowledge of structures.
  • IT literate with knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of Python.
  • Good communication skills.
