The Technical Safety Team within the Global Technical Support Office specialises in design review of Technical Safety Systems for offshore and onshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries. We work with a global team to propose innovative solutions, advise on time and cost, and develop expertise continuously. As an experienced senior engineer you will carry out design appraisal of complex process safety related equipment and systems, provide pragmatic advice to colleagues and clients, and mentor less experienced colleagues.
The role
- Carry out design appraisals of offshore and onshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries' technical safety arrangements and systems against Codes, Standards, Regulations and client project requirements within agreed parameters including budget and contract constraints.
- Provide sound technical and regulatory guidance to clients during design and construction; participate in meetings or workshops where required.
- Perform assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development within agreed parameters including budget constraints and contractual requirements.
- Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems and services.
- Assess and recommend the time/value of work for internal/external clients within an agreed fee/cost structure and commercial constraints.
- Assist the business in the bid and win process by estimating time requirements for a range of projects.
- Occasionally conduct site visits to shipyards, offshore facilities, client sites, testing laboratories or production facilities as required.
- Mentor and coach other technical employees to transfer knowledge and apply it effectively.
- Manage and oversee project schedules, financial tracking, contract risk management, documentation, and compliance with legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.
What you bring
- Degree or equivalent in engineering or physical sciences from a recognised institution; extensive experience in a related Technical Safety area, especially Oil & Gas Upstream and Floating Offshore Sector.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) or eligible/working towards such status; membership of an appropriate professional institution.
- Knowledge of Classification/Certification/Verification and familiarity with Classification Societies (IACS) Rules is desirable.
- Exposure to Consultancy, Concept/ FEED/ Detailed Design and EPC projects.
- Working knowledge of offshore/onshore oil & gas and renewable energy industries’ technical safety arrangements and systems, including Fire & Gas Detection; Active/Passive Fire Protection; Cryogenic Exposure Protection; Explosion Risks & Mitigation; Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Facilities; Technical Safety Studies.
- Ability to participate in multi-disciplinary Engineering Design Reviews and provide process safety input to close out actions.
- Desirable: Detailed knowledge of Active Fire Protection systems; knowledge of LR Rules for Offshore Units, IEC Standards, MODU Code, SOLAS, etc.
- Experience in leading training and developing a technical team is desirable.
