This is a market-facing technical underwriting support role operating at the centre of the Lloyd’s and London specialty market, with a strong focus on collaboration and strategic influence across the market. Supporting the LMA’s energy underwriting community (onshore and offshore), the role offers a unique opportunity to shape technical underwriting practices, market guidance and collective initiatives, with flexibility to contribute across other lines of business as required.

Working closely with underwriting committees and LMA members, the role provides technical expertise, coordination and advocacy on issues that matter most to the market. As a trusted partner to the Head of Technical Underwriting, you will lead and facilitate technical discussions, shape underwriting guidance, coordinate market-facing initiatives and deliver practical solutions to complex market challenges. This is a highly visible role that offers direct exposure to senior stakeholders across multiple managing agents and industry bodies. It provides the opportunity to build a strong profile while contributing to the future direction of specialist underwriting classes.

The Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) represents the interests of 59 Lloyd’s managing agents and members’ agents. The purpose of the LMA is to make the market a better place and in so doing, maintain the Lloyd’s market’s position as the pre-eminent leader in specialty and commercial risk. We sit at the centre of the Lloyd’s market, a world-leading global marketplace for complex risk.

We seek to make the market a better place in five fundamental ways:

  • Advocating on behalf of our members with key stakeholders, including governments, regulators and the Corporation of Lloyd’s.

  • Supporting the ongoing development of underwriting, claims, finance, risk and operations professionals through our award-winning LMA Academy.
  • Driving forward a digitalisation agenda for the market.
  • Advocating for advancing the market’s inclusive culture.

Collaboration is at the core of what we do. We engage closely with our members to understand and tackle the issues that matter most, and we partner with Lloyd’s and other market associations to help shape the future of the marketplace.

Job Purpose: To support and represent LMA members by providing technical expertise, leadership and coordination across the LMA’s energy underwriting committees and to other business areas as required. The role will lead and facilitate committee activity, influence technical discussions and contribute to the development of market guidance, helping to shape current and future market initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a credible and authoritative representative of the LMA, confidently influencing senior underwriters and LMA members and contributing to complex technical discussions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on underwriting issues across energy business, with the willingness to get involved in other lines of business as required.
  • Lead, initiate, manage and deliver technical underwriting projects in response to market needs and strategic priorities.
  • Draft, review and contribute to policy wordings, clauses, reports and other market-facing documentation to a high professional standard.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with underwriting committees, managing agents and LMA members, as well as relevant bodies including Lloyd’s and industry organisations.
  • Respond to LMA member enquiries in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Line manage and support the development of one direct report.
