Based in our Newport depot, the Driver Category C + Hiab role is essential to ensuring our customers receive equipment safely, efficiently and with exceptional service. This is a hands‑on, customer‑facing position where you will represent Speedy’s vision, mission and values every day.
About the Role – What You Will Be Doing
- Delivering and collecting hire equipment across the local and regional area using a Category C vehicle fitted with a Hiab crane.
- Operating the Hiab equipment safely in line with training, legislation, and company policy to load and unload heavy, bulky or specialist equipment.
- Carrying out daily vehicle and crane checks, ensuring legal compliance, roadworthiness, and immediate reporting of any defects.
- Securing loads appropriately, ensuring safe transportation of equipment and minimising risk of damage or movement during transit.
- Completing all paperwork and digital records, including delivery notes, hire documentation, and returns processing accurately and efficiently.
- Providing excellent customer service, acting as a professional representative of Speedy on customer sites, depots, and construction environments.
- Demonstrating or explaining basic equipment use when required (training provided), ensuring customers understand safe operation guidelines.
- Adhering to site rules, health and safety regulations, and Speedy’s safety standards at all times.
- Communicating with coordinators and depot teams to respond to last-minute delivery changes, route adjustments and urgent customer requests.
- Supporting the depot operation during quieter periods (equipment checks, yard organisation, stock control).
- Upholding Speedy’s ESG Strategy – Decade to Deliver, contributing to sustainability and responsible operational practices.

- Maintain a professional, courteous and customer-focused attitude on every delivery.
- Follow safe driving practices and legislation, including speed limits, tachograph rules and load restraints.
- Ensure your vehicle and Hiab equipment are always clean, safe and fully compliant.
- Be punctual, reliable, and flexible in responding to delivery schedules.
- Represent Speedy’s values by promoting safety, service excellence and teamwork.
- Use initiative to overcome challenges on customer sites and communicate effectively with the depot.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the local area to support route planning and timely deliveries.
What You Need
- Full UK Category C (Class 2) licence.
- Hiab (Lorry Loader) qualification/certification.
- No more than 6 penalty points.
- Previous commercial driving experience within the UK.
- Good working knowledge of local areas and road networks.
- Strong customer focus and communication skills.
- Ability to carry out manual handling tasks.
- Positive attitude toward safety and compliance.
- Ability to support the delivery of the ESG Strategy – Decade to Deliver.
