HOURS: 35 hours, full time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of your time, at our Edinburgh hub.

Scottish Widows has been helping people prepare for the future since 1815. This role is an opportunity to bring experience in sustainability into an investment and pensions role. The Investment team at Scottish Widows manages approximately £200bn worth of assets on behalf of customers, investing to help their pension pots grow.

We're looking for a proactive and passionate Responsible Investment Manager for a 12-month Fixed Term contract to help deliver our Responsible Investment Framework and Stewardship Policy. You’ll work across a range of environmental and social themes and activities to support a market leading proposition, which has responsible investing at its core, delivering the best outcomes for our customers.

Your accountabilities will include:

  • Leading our direct corporate engagement programme across diversity, human rights and nature, developing methodologies, conducting research and engaging with companies alongside supporting colleagues on specific focus areas.
  • Managing voting season including working with our partner Minerva to review upcoming votes and conduct research, as well as managing the approval process.
  • Supporting the senior RI manager and Head of Team on external investor collaborations and projects, providing research and discussion support.
  • Drafting content for the annual Responsible Investment report and support client requests through summarising work on engagement and voting with examples and case studies.
  • Support additional reporting for UNPRI and Group Sustainability reports.
  • Acting as representative for LBG social work, attending modern slavery working group sessions and staying connected to Group’s work on social topics.

About you:

  • A deep understanding of social and environmental topics, such as human rights and biodiversity, from study and/or experience, as well as some awareness of the sustainability regulatory landscape.
  • Confidence in ability to analyse and monitor companies’ sustainability performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Expertise in engaging companies (or other customers), and the ability to influence and manage relationships to encourage positive outcomes.
  • Experience and understanding of the investment system and the role of the pension industry as an asset owner either through direct experience or wider collaboration.
  • The ability to self‑direct and problem solve.
  • The ability to absorb knowledge quickly and communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
