We are modernising our Public Cloud: a platform that is secure, resilient and sustainable for customers, and fast, intuitive and frictionless for engineers. We’re looking for a Product Owner who thinks in products, not processes. Someone who treats the platform as their product, thrives in ambiguity, and creates clarity fast. This is not a role for managing tickets or optimising ceremonies. It’s about shaping a platform that accelerates delivery across the bank. Our core technology focus is on Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure. For this specific role, the PO would be aligned to MS Azure. We are looking for 2 Product Owners, one on a permanent basis, and one of a 12 month secondment opportunity.
You’ll bring strong instincts for how modern, enterprise‑scale Azure landing zones should work, paired with a deep understanding of how individual capabilities come together to create flow for engineers. Your mission is simple: turn the Azure platform into something teams actively want to use because it is fast, safe and frictionless.
What you’ll need:
- You’ll bring a blend of technical fluency, product instinct and outcome‑driven thinking.
- You know how to turn Cloud capability into real leverage for engineers and customers, and you use technical understanding to make better product decisions, not to hide behind process or checklists.
- You should have experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Shipping cloud platforms at scale, ideally on Azure or Google Cloud, with a clear understanding of how real enterprise platforms operate in production.
- Improving developer experience, with a strong focus on reducing friction, accelerating time‑to‑first‑deploy, and making the paved path the easiest path.
- Defining and operationalising internal platform offerings or catalogues, making complex capabilities easy to consume through clear, opinionated patterns.
- Applying strong Cloud security principles, balancing control with speed and embedding security as an invisible, default part of the platform.
- Communicating with clarity and confidence, switching easily between deep technical discussions and sharp, outcome‑led narratives.
- Working with third‑party vendors and partners, building pragmatic, value‑focused relationships that maintain momentum.
You’ll be fluent in the core building blocks of Azure and comfortable shaping direction through technical understanding rather than documentation alone.
Technology Context:
This role requires a solid understanding of:
- Azure Core Networking, including vWAN, VDC and Private Endpoints
- Azure Security Networking, including Firewall, WAF and NSGs
- Azure Governance and Compliance layers, including Azure Policy
- Monitoring and alerting using native tooling and Dynatrace
- Cloud backup, recovery and resilience strategies
Experience with the wider Azure product set (Databases, Storage, API Management, Compute), alongside platform engineering tooling such as Terraform, Backstage, GitHub and Harness, and common integration patterns, is a strong signal that you understand how platforms scale in practice.
Your North Star: Deliver a platform that accelerates the bank, not a backlog that keeps everyone busy.
Responsible for:
- You’ll lead the delivery of incremental, high‑leverage value across the Azure platform. That means reducing time‑to‑value, lowering cost‑to‑serve, improving reliability, and enabling teams to ship safely at speed. Every piece of work you champion should deliver a clear outcome: new capability, risk reduction, debt removal, reliability improvement or a measurable gain in developer experience.
- Setting direction, not just targets: shaping outcome‑driven Products, Features and Improvements, and using real usage and performance data to steer decisions.
- Set a clear product vision that aligns teams and accelerates decision‑making: giving engineers clarity, stakeholders confidence, and the platform a clear trajectory.
- Owning the Azure platform backlog end‑to‑end: making hard prioritisation decisions, deciding what to progress, pause or stop, and focusing effort on the highest‑leverage problems.
- Framing work as problems to solve: ensuring every initiative has a clear purpose, customer and measurable outcome.
- Partnering closely with Customer Journey teams and Integrators: identifying friction in real usage, improving flow, and turning insight into actionable product decisions.
- Landing change cleanly: cutting through governance with clarity and intent so compliance is built‑in, not bolted‑on, and changes land smoothly without slowing momentum.
- Owning the commercial heartbeat of the platform: understanding cost drivers, making informed trade‑offs, and ensuring investment flows to work that delivers the greatest return.
- Growing the people around you: raising the bar through example, and strengthening product judgement and ownership across the team.
Product Delivery:
- Drives meaningful improvements in how the platform is built and evolved, introducing techniques, tooling and delivery patterns that improve flow and reduce friction.
- Sets clear direction for cross‑functional teams, enabling delivery through modern, lightweight ways of working.
- Leads the definition and evolution of significant Azure platform capabilities, shaping them from concept through to adoption using small, safe, testable slices.
- Keeps teams aligned to outcomes rather than ceremonies, cutting work that doesn’t materially move the platform forward.
Customer Centricity:
- Drives real customer outcomes, ensuring work is rooted in solving problems that matter to engineering teams.
- Anticipates needs before they surface, using customer insight and platform usage patterns to place smarter bets and target improvements.
Product Ownership:
- Owns the platform backlog with confidence, making clear prioritisation calls and stopping low‑value work early.
- Takes accountability for platform changes working in production, not just for shipping them.
- Creates momentum across teams by ensuring the right clarity, tooling and decision‑making exist to move fast safely.
- Uses deep product judgement and Azure fluency to challenge assumptions, sequence work intelligently, and guide the platform toward the strongest outcomes.
