Here in the People & Places (P&P) Control Office, there is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team passionate about the P&P Control optimisation and automation Journey. This is a prominent role within a team of subject matter experts providing insightful analysis and evaluation of the P&P control environment and safeguarding the business. The role provides a real opportunity to identify inefficiencies and drive automation for an optimised control environment. Accountabilities

  • Partner with the Senior Manager to deliver the People & Places control automation journey, identifying existing automation opportunities, control gaps and applying control‑by‑design principles to embed automation at source.
  • Work collaboratively with platform and technology teams to design, build, cost and deliver automated and AI‑enabled controls, ensuring solutions align to P&P automation standards and Group risk expectations.
  • Own and cascade the P&P control automation review methodology and schedule, supporting customers through structured deep‑dives to identify, prioritise and implement automation opportunities across end‑to‑end processes.
  • Establish and engage a network of business partners to champion control automation, coordinate deep‑dive activity, and drive momentum across P&P priority areas.
  • Work closely with Risk and Control Owners to deliver automation outcomes aligned to customer, business and strategic priorities, supporting measurable improvements in control effectiveness, efficiency and risk reduction.
  • Analyse and assess the efficiency of the control environment using multiple data sources (e.g. ROP, MI, incidents, KRIs/KCIs, audit findings), identifying control weaknesses, automation candidates and business impacts.
  • Support the development and execution of the P&P control strategy, supervising and testing the design and operating effectiveness of controls across end‑to‑end processes, with a clear bias towards preventative and automated controls.
  • Lead targeted control testing and transactional activity, supervising a small team delivering control management tasks and using outcomes to inform automation and design improvements.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of control tooling and platforms, including the use of digital, data‑driven and AI‑enabled solutions to optimise control operation, assurance and insight.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting on control performance and effectiveness, maintaining strong data quality, completeness and integrity of monitoring, testing, KCIs and dashboards for escalation to P&P Risk Committee.
  • Support the management of operational risk events and RCSA actions, identifying control weaknesses, recommending improvements and tracking remediation through to closure, with increasing use of automation and predictive insight.
  • Embed AI awareness and readiness into control activities, supporting the identification of AI‑applicable controls, ensuring responsible adoption, and helping future‑proof the P&P control environment in line with the P&P 2030 roadmap.

What We Need From You

  • Control Automation & Optimisation – Experience with end‑to‑end mapping of processes and finding opportunities to automate and optimise control landscapes, agreement and delivery of embedding control by design.
  • Great Influencing – Being able to support the Senior Manager and act as a control management business partner, using effective communication to foster partnerships and work collaboratively with others to deliver shared objectives.
  • Data & Analytics – Ability to interpret different sources of data and complex information to effectively problem‑solve and develop appropriate analytical processes for control performance reporting to make relevant conclusions and recommendations across the control environment.
  • Control Practitioner – Experience in control by design, implementing and monitoring control strategies and a strong ability to execute testing of control design and operating effectiveness of the control environment.
  • Clear Reporting – Expertise in crafting effective reporting on the performance and progression of automation, compliance and optimisation across the P&P control environment.
