The Senior DevOps Engineer will hold accountability for design, implementation, maintenance and support of DevOps pipelines, tooling/automation at a Feature/Lab team level. This will include recommending the right pipeline and tooling choices appropriate for their Feature/Lab accountabilities, in line with Group Strategy. They will work alongside other DevOps and Software Engineers within Strategic & Run Lab in the Prudential & Analytics Platform supporting and implementing solutions for the MERIT application.

This is vital work, making sure we release the best‑of‑breed software and platforms that will have a real impact on customers, businesses and communities across the UK. You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to support and evolve a Regulatory Risk Model Execution Platform built on Google Cloud. The application ecosystem includes Java Spring Boot microservices, a Next.js‑based frontend, and a Python‑driven model execution layer.

As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll be part of a team that is dedicated to transforming our software landscape. Day to day, you’ll be:

  • working with the latest DevOps tools, including Kubernetes, ISTIO, Harness
  • building solutions on Google infrastructure such as GKE, Cloud Run, Dataproc, Cloud Composer, BigQuery, GCS, CloudSQL, HCV Vault
  • working with the Product Owner, Lead Engineer and customers to understand, refine and prioritise items for the feature team backlog, using strong problem‑solving skills and a combination of technical knowledge, experience and judgement to identify available options and clearly set‑out the way forward.
  • coaching and inspiring our software engineering teams, helping them upskill in a relevant technology area
  • taking ownership of specific technology or delivery problems and solving them
  • acting as a tireless ambassador for DevOps, both internally and externally.

Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud technology, particularly Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience of CI/CD pipelines creation and management such as Harness, Jenkins, GIT, Nexus, Artifactory, Maven, Ant, Gradle, Terraform, GCP Deployment Manager and others
  • Experience of continuous monitoring such as Dynatrace, NewRelic, Splunk, Nagios, Prometheus, Kibana and others
  • Experience of continuous testing such as Selenium, Cucumber, SonarQube, Mocha, Zephyr, Veracode and others
  • Experience with orchestration such as Docker, Google Kubernetes Engine, Ansible and IaC (e.g. Terraform)
  • Ability to understand complex business requirements and create business‑ready solutions
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, particularly the ability to convey business information arising from technical subject matter to non‑technical people.
  • Experience with data management, storage and analytics in financial contexts (credit risk, capital, impairment processes)
