The role sits within the Transport Platform, a key member of the wider Consumer Lending Business Unit. Our mission is to keep Britain moving by providing customer‑focused solutions for vehicle access, maintenance, and related services including digital account management. Where you'll make a difference:

  • Lead cross‑functional engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high‑quality DevOps capabilities across cloud‑native platforms, applying technical leadership to drive outcomes and foster team autonomy.
  • Design and orchestrate CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Harness, Jenkins, GitHub, and Terraform, focusing on federation patterns like overrides and config maps to enable teams to self‑serve and deploy with confidence.
  • Engineer Kubernetes‑native solutions across public and private cloud environments, including workload orchestration, Istio‑based networking, and storage class management to ensure platform resilience and scalability.
  • Build secure and compliant DevOps workflows by integrating SonarQube and AquaSec into automated pipelines, enforcing guardrails and embedding quality assurance from the start.
  • Automate manual processes and enable self‑service capabilities across teams, championing an automation‑first mindset and reducing operational overhead through robust pipeline design.
  • Apply strong stakeholder management across complex platforms, balancing competing priorities and communicating effectively with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Plan strategic roadmaps, looking 6–12 months ahead to evolve DevOps capabilities in line with business needs, scheduling work and anticipating future demand.
  • Foster a culture of enablement, ensuring DevOps capabilities are federated—not centralised—to empower teams to own and operate their delivery pipelines.
  • Mentor and collaborate across communities of practice, driving continuous improvement through shared learning, experimentation, and leadership.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Providing technical leadership across cross‑functional teams, delivering secure, scalable, and high‑quality DevOps capabilities on cloud‑native platforms.
  • Designing and orchestrating CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Harness, Jenkins, GitHub, and Terraform, focusing on federation patterns including overrides and config maps.
  • Engineering Kubernetes‑native solutions across GCP environments, including workload orchestration, Istio‑based networking, and storage class management.
  • Working with GCP platform services, including Databases such as Spanner, BigQuery, AlloyDB/CloudSQL, GCS buckets, and IAM permissions and controls.
  • Embedding security and quality assurance into automated pipelines using tools like SonarQube and AquaSec to enforce guardrails and ensure compliance.
  • Automating manual processes and enabling self‑service capabilities across teams, with a strong automation‑first mindset.
  • Managing multiple stakeholders across complex platforms, balancing competing priorities and communicating effectively with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Planning and prioritising DevOps capability roadmaps, looking 6–12 months ahead to align with strategic goals.
  • Experience with Liquibase for database schema management and familiarity with Nexus Repository for artefact management, advantageous.
  • Exposure to observability platforms such as Dynatrace.
  • Desirable: experience working with teams to investigate and define remediation plans as part of root cause analysis following high‑impact incidents.
