What you'll be doing

We're looking for a Software Engineer to join us to help build and support the systems that underpin regulatory reporting and risk compliance, working with Datastage and Oracle-based technologies. This is a hands-on role where you'll contribute to both change delivery and live service, while continuing to develop your engineering capability, problem-solving skills, and understanding of complex banking data.

You’ll write clean, efficient and well-documented code in line with engineering standards, while supporting change delivery across Datastage and Oracle-based systems. Working closely with senior engineers, you’ll develop a clear understanding of requirements and help resolve issues, contributing to the stability and performance of live applications through ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting and debugging. You’ll monitor systems in production, identify bugs and implement fixes, and play an active role in incident management, including root cause analysis, to improve resilience and security. Alongside this, you’ll take part in code reviews and team discussions to strengthen quality and share knowledge, apply test automation and debugging tools to support performance and reliability, and use Agile ways of working to plan, prioritise and deliver effectively. Clear communication with stakeholders will be key, keeping them informed on progress, risks and opportunities for improvement.

We're investing billions in our people, places and tech to change the way we meet the needs of our 28 million customers. We're growing, and we'd love you to be part of the journey.

What we're looking for

  • Experience writing production-quality code and supporting live systems
  • Working knowledge of UK regulatory risk frameworks (e.g. Basel 3.1)
  • Understanding of retail or commercial banking data and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Experience with Datastage, Oracle or similar enterprise data platforms
  • Awareness of DevOps principles and modern engineering practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a structured, logical approach to debugging issues

We know that great talent comes from many backgrounds. Whilst this job advert may reference specific years of experience, we recognise that skills are developed in many ways, so if you have relevant, transferable experience, we encourage you to apply.
