Overview
This role commercialises Lloyds Banking Group payments technology beyond the UK through bespoke, senior-level partnerships.
It focuses on originating and leading targeted business development conversations with European banks and other selected financial institutions that may benefit from payments platforms and software capabilities owned, built, or acquired by Lloyds Banking Group (including Curve).
The role involves shaping, positioning, and selling platform-as-a-service and software-as-a-service propositions based on LBG’s wallet capability and payments technology.
It is not about high-volume pipeline generation; success comes from a small number of well-structured, high-value engagements led with senior counterparts such as CIO, COO, Head of Payments, Head of Platform, Digital or Transformation leads where LBG’s technology can solve real strategic or operational problems.
Responsibilities
- Identify, prioritise, and pursue bespoke partnership opportunities with European banks, other regulated financial institutions, PSPs or market infrastructure participants, and other parties interested in LBG’s technology.
- Lead end‑to‑end business development from initial senior engagement through deal structuring, collaborating with internal product, technology, legal, risk, and commercial teams.
- Commercialise LBG-owned payments technology; act as the commercial front door for payments technology that the Group owns, has built, or has acquired (including Curve).
- Translate complex platform capabilities into clear value propositions focused on outcomes such as speed to market, engagement and capability enhancements for partner banks and their customers.
- Shape bespoke propositions on a deal-by-deal basis, recognising that each counterparty will have different legacy constraints, with commercial structures varying (licensing, Saa S, managed service, hybrid models).
- Ensure propositions are credible, deliverable, and aligned with LBG’s risk appetite, not aspirational or generic.
- Engage senior stakeholders with trust-based selling, building credibility through deep understanding of banking payments, platforms, and operating models, and by clarifying where LBG technology fits.
- Support counterparties in framing internal investment and transformation decisions, including enhancements to their customer propositions.
- Lead a small number of high-stakes deals rather than managing a large sales funnel.
Qualifications
- Proven experience selling or commercialising complex banking or payments platforms.
- Credibility in senior, trust-based conversations with European banks or other financial institutions.
- Strong understanding of payments technology, operating models, and regulatory context.
