Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lawyer to join our Banking Products team in Business & Commercial Banking (BCB) and Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) Legal to support the cash‑management and payments business. Join a highly collaborative and friendly team that delivers transaction banking products and services to all commercial customers – from sole traders and start‑ups to the largest corporates, financial institutions and the public sector.

About This Opportunity

The role requires a legally qualified lawyer with extensive experience in cash management and payments, a strong grasp of legal, regulatory and industry frameworks, and experience with customer and/or supplier agreements. You must deliver influential insight, engage proactively with senior stakeholders, provide business‑friendly legal advice, and operate as a subject‑matter specialist. Delegated line‑management responsibilities are also part of the role.

You should be confident in coaching colleagues and embedding effective legal risk management, thinking strategically about the operation of the team and the way legal services are used and delivered, including exploring legal tech solutions.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Advise on the legal and regulatory aspects of cash‑management and payments solutions
  • Advise on and draft terms and conditions for new and existing payables, receivables, deposits/accounts, liquidity and digital products and services
  • Advise on end‑to‑end customer journeys
  • Identify and help mitigate legal risk
  • Negotiate with customers on tailored arrangements
  • Support business partners with tender reviews and submissions
  • Provide legal support for delivery of projects including innovation, product development, rectifications and legal and regulatory change
  • Assist with the development of policy and procedures
  • Collaborate with product, sales, relationship and delivery teams to develop and deliver new solutions or change initiatives
  • Help shape and influence strategy in relation to relevant areas of legal, regulatory and industry change – with specific reference to payment services
  • Work on supplier or other third‑party arrangements related to new or enhanced products
  • Build relationships with external stakeholders including trade associations and industry peers
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with external lawyers and internal stakeholders across the legal function, the business and other functions (e.g., Risk and Compliance)
  • Identify knowledge gaps and deliver and organise training to team and business partners
  • Reflect on service delivery and look for continuous improvement opportunities

What You’ll Need

  • UK‑qualified lawyer with significant experience in financial services, specifically payments and transaction banking
  • Deep understanding of Payment Services Regulations and Consumer Duty
  • Knowledge of BCOBS, KYL/AML and ringfencing
  • Experience dealing with customer and/or commercial contracts and related negotiations
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new legal and technological developments
  • Strong influencing and communication skills, ideally with experience engaging regulators and industry bodies
  • Proven track record of delivering legal advice in complex, cross‑functional environments
  • Experience collaborating with clients, business partners and internal teams to deliver solutions in a regulated environment
  • Knowledge of digital assets/tokenised deposits would be an advantage
  • A genuine interest in developing others and being part of a collaborative team
  • Able to independently manage a busy workload and competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
