At Lloyds Banking Group, we’re driven by our purpose – Helping Britain Prosper. It’s why we exist and how we make decisions. As the world changes around us, we’re transforming our business and investing in modern, sustainable technology to shape finance as a force for good.

About the Team: Our Cloud Platform team is a well‑established engineering group at the heart of one of the UK’s biggest financial‑services transformations. We’re modernising the bank’s next‑generation cloud platform, partnering with business and product teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions for:

  • Analytics
  • GenAI / Machine Learning
  • Databases
  • Application workloads

Our remit is broad: product curation, data‑warehousing capabilities, landing‑zone engineering, automation, and embedding AI into cloud workflows to improve developer experience, quality and efficiency.

About the Role: We're building a cloud platform that is quick, secure and resilient for customers – and easy, modern and green for developers. This role focuses on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and we’re particularly interested in people with experience in:

  • GCP Analytics, AI, Databases & Serverless products
  • Networking, security, IAM & platform engineering
  • Terraform
  • CI/CD (Harness / GitHub Actions)
  • Python
  • Git workflows
  • Backstage
  • Policy‑as‑Code (Open Policy Agent)
  • Security tooling (Organisation Policy, Security Health Analytics, Wiz)
  • Dynatrace

Knowledge of multi‑agent AI systems is also desirable.

We're looking for a Cloud Engineer with strong GCP experience, building end‑to‑end infrastructure solutions for engineering teams across the Group. You’ll drive automation across deployments and operations, and take part in an out‑of‑hours support rota.

About You: You’re passionate about engineering excellence, automation and creating great developer experiences. You’re collaborative, curious and comfortable working across different domains in a fast‑moving platform organisation. You’ll work side‑by‑side with Engineering Leads, Product Owners and partner teams to deliver our roadmap, shape priorities, embed traditional and GenAI tooling, and unblock delivery. You’ll also contribute to technical communities and mentor early‑career engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and maintain secure, scalable GCP infrastructure foundations, including IAM policy, key management, network patterns (PSC/PSA), and observability for services such as BigQuery, Composer, Vertex AI, AlloyDB, Spanner and Cloud Run.
  • Build and maintain reusable Terraform modules and automated deployment patterns for analytics, AI/ML, database and serverless products.
  • Develop CI/CD pipelines using Harness CI and Python to automate delivery and reduce manual effort.
  • Translate threat‑model and policy requirements into policy‑as‑code guardrails (Wiz / Rego / Custom Org Policy / CEL).
  • Create and evolve self‑service Golden Paths via Backstage templates, scaffolding, documentation and automation hooks.
  • Partner with security, risk, architecture and delivery teams to meet regulated‑industry standards while maintaining engineering pace.
  • Improve operational excellence across monitoring, incident response, problem management, cost optimisation and reliability, including participating in OOH support.
  • Prototype and productionise GenAI and agentic‑AI automation (e.g., AI‑assisted deployments, documentation generation, policy reasoning) using tools including Gemini on GCP and Copilot Studio.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and support continuous improvement of workflows, tools and processes.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in Platform Engineering with a consistent record of delivering and operating solutions on GCP.
  • Hands‑on experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Harness or similar.
  • Understanding of configuration‑management tools for infrastructure automation and policy enforcement.
  • Expertise in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language (Python, Go or Bash).
  • Ability to take ownership of features and products through to successful delivery.
  • Experience handling cloud‑service products through their lifecycle.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, able to explain technical concepts clearly to varied audiences.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, dynamic and evolving environment.

What You’ll Get in Return: We’re committed to equal opportunity and building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve. Your wellbeing, growth and development matter to us. You’ll receive:

  • A performance‑based share bonus
  • A flexible benefits pot
  • A generous pension contribution
  • Private health cover
  • Up to 30 days annual leave (with the option to purchase more)
  • Access to colleague share schemes

If this role sounds like a great match for your skills, we’d love to hear from you.
