About this opportunity:

Do you want to build the automation, CI/CD pipelines and engineering standards that help teams deliver software faster, safer and more reliably? We’re the Colleague Channels Platform – the team behind the technology that helps colleagues across Branch, Contact Centres and Operations support our customers. We provide shared platforms, tooling and cross‑cutting capabilities used by engineering teams across the Group.

Within the Cloud team, we focus on automation, CI/CD, safety and security, and clear patterns for cloud provisioning and platform use. We design and evolve reusable standards, tooling and guardrails that enable teams to deliver at pace on GCP and OpenShift, while remaining secure, resilient and compliant!

This is a senior, hands‑on engineering role, where strong technical capability and an automation‑first attitude sit alongside coaching, collaboration and the ability to raise engineering standards across teams!

As a Senior Engineer in the Cloud team, you’ll:

  • Design and evolve CI/CD pipelines, release automation and shared tooling to improve reliability and developer experience.
  • Drive automation‑first ways of working, reducing manual effort and improving consistency.
  • Create and maintain Kubernetes and platform patterns that teams can safely adopt and extend.
  • Define secure, repeatable guardrails and cloud provisioning patterns aligned to central standards.
  • Partner with and support feature teams through hands‑on collaboration, coaching and mentoring.
  • Continuously improve engineering standards through reviews, shared learning and reusable capabilities.

What you’ll need:

  • Strong hands‑on experience designing and running CI/CD pipelines across environments.
  • An automation‑first approach, with solid scripting skills (e.g. Python and/or Bash) to reduce manual effort.
  • Practical experience with Kubernetes and Helm, with some familiarity with service mesh concepts (such as Istio).
  • Experience working on cloud‑based platforms, taking a pragmatic, engineering‑led approach.
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code (e.g. Terraform) to support automated delivery.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Dynatrace, Prometheus, Splunk or similar).
  • A collaborative approach, with a strong sense of engineering quality, ownership and continuous improvement, and a desire to support teams to work better.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in application development and testing environments (e.g. Java, Node.js, React, automated testing).
  • Exposure to code quality, security scanning and vulnerability management.
  • Experience with secrets or certificate management (e.g. HashiCorp Vault).
  • Awareness of cloud cost optimisation (FinOps).
  • Familiarity with data, messaging or streaming technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL, Oracle, Kafka).
