JOB TITLE: Assistant VAT Manager – Group Tax (9 Month FTC)
SALARY: £48,987 - £59,873
LOCATION(S): Edinburgh & Leeds
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

Group Tax is a key function within the Finance community of LBG, having responsibility for managing the Group’s tax affairs. The Group has a wide range of tax payments, deductions, and reporting obligations both for its own account but also for its colleagues and customers. Group Tax manages these obligations on behalf of the Group, ensuring the tax consequences of all transactions are understood and that the Group is in full compliance with its statutory obligations.
What you’ll be doing:
Use of tools such as Excel, Power Apps, Copilot and Alteryx to manage and transform data including:
Reviewing VAT Returns, reconciliations and supporting analysis,
Analysing large and complex data sets to support VAT reporting and issue resolutions
Apply VAT Rules to transactions and ensure the accurate treatment across systems.
Support VAT assurance reviews and audits.
Identify process gaps, control weaknesses, and support practical improvements.
Work with finance and business teams to gather data and resolve VAT queries.
Use tools such as Excel, Power Query, and Alteryx to manage and transform data.
Prepare clear documentation to support compliance, controls, and audit requirements.
Deliver work in line with established tax control frameworks and procedures.
Support the VAT team in responding to advisory queries from the business.
Apply working knowledge of UK VAT legislation and HMRC guidance to support decisions.

What we’re looking for:
A relevant qualification, such as ATT, VAT Compliance Diploma, ACCA or AAT, is preferred; alternatively, you may have gained equivalent expertise through substantial experience in a Finance function.
VAT compliance experience.
Proven experience reviewing complex VAT returns and supporting audits.
Good working knowledge of UK VAT law and its practical application
Ability to apply VAT guidance to transactions and data.
Confidence working with large datasets and translating data into clear outputs.
Experience with finance systems such as Oracle ERP and SAP Ariba.
Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines.
Clear communication skills and ability to work with a range of partners.
And any experience of these would be great
Strong Excel skills.
Experience with Power Query or Alteryx.
Experience in financial services or a large corporate.
