We’re on an exciting journey to transform our Group and the way we’re shaping finance for good. We’re focusing on the future, investing in our technologies, workplaces, and colleagues to make our Group a great place for everyone.
About this opportunity: The Swift Lab sits within the Payments Services Platform and is responsible for safeguarding and enhancing the Group’s connectivity to the global SWIFT network. We own and operate key components including GTX, SWIFT gateways, messaging & orchestration tooling, and the portfolio of SWIFT mandated products that keep our payment flows compliant, secure, and real-time. The purpose of the Lab Product Owner's role is the overall ownership for a single, large and complex product backlog which may contain many features, journeys or technology components. This role aims to provide value to customers by ensuring the teams focus on addressing the right issues. This involves fostering collaborative and empowered teams that take ownership of outcomes, encouraging innovation, and minimizing risk through data-driven testing and learning. This is a senior delivery leadership role where you’ll drive the execution of a significant change portfolio, including our strategic 2026–2030 modernisation roadmap. You’ll steer the evolution of our SWIFT connectivity stack, including the replacement of the GT Exchange (GTX) application with our own next generation gateway, alongside major infrastructure uplift and application modernisation programmes.
What you’ll do:
- Lead delivery of critical SWIFT connectivity capabilities, ensuring alignment to agreed priorities, regulatory deadlines, and Lab capacity.
- Shape and own the product roadmap, translating strategy into actionable backlogs and delivery increments.
- Drive key modernisation initiatives, including the buildout of a new SWIFT gateway to replace GTX.
- Manage complex stakeholder relationships across PSP, Operations, Fraud, CISO, Architecture, Programme Delivery and external partners.
- Maintain a strong focus on risk, security, resilience and compliance in every delivery decision.
- Partner with engineering leadership to ensure technical solutions are robust, modern, and scalable.
- Use data and service insights to inform prioritisation and support continuous improvement.
- Champion high-quality people leadership — coaching, supporting and developing colleagues to grow their skills, confidence and delivery impact.
- Create the conditions for high performing teams, promoting psychological safety, shared purpose and continuous learning.
- Champion the culture, capability and performance of the Lab — empowering colleagues to deliver exceptional outcomes.
- Deliver against a product budget, performing financial and data analysis.
- Support development of Platform or Lab OKRs and provide product performance and benefits realisation data.
- Input into business 4YOP, customer plan and tech roadmap as required.
- Define and prioritise Platform epics, features and stories which support Product strategy.
- Accountable for overseeing product change governance (e.g., CMIA / SPFIA activities), business readiness activities (e.g., training and comms).
What you’ll need: We’re looking for someone who brings credibility, purposeful leadership, and strong delivery discipline. Ideally, you’ll have a background in payments, international banking, or financial messaging — and an ability to translate complex technical and operational requirements into a clear, prioritised product vision.
- Extensive experience delivering complex technology or platform change within large organisations.
- Background in payments, financial messaging, or international banking — ideally with exposure to SWIFT, CHAPS, or high value payments.
- Strong understanding of technical infrastructure, integration patterns, and the controls required to operate secure payment connectivity.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire teams, build followship, and cultivate a positive, high performance culture. You lead with authenticity, empathy and clarity, supporting colleagues to thrive and enabling sustained team performance.
- Proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders and navigating complex delivery environments.
- Experience shaping and managing product roadmaps with clear prioritisation and disciplined governance.
It would be great if you also had:
- Familiarity with SWIFT products (e.g. FIN, ISO 20022, RMA, SRM, CSP controls).
- Experience overseeing infrastructure modernisation or gateway migrations.
- Understanding of the broader Payments Services Platform and UK regulatory landscape.
