As the UK’s largest bank with relationships with the majority of the UK population and companies, we are uniquely positioned to enable Stablecoin Innovation with regards to International Payments for our customers, as part of our mission to Help Britain Prosper. This role exists to drive the Lloyds Banking Group move from theory to practice in how stablecoins and tokenised settlement models could materially improve international payments.

You will act as the Group’s stablecoin and cross‐border payments specialist — combining deep technical and operational understanding with practical experimentation. The focus is not on thought leadership for its own sake, but on developing and testing where stablecoins can reduce cost, friction, risk, and settlement time across international payment flows, and translating those learnings into scalable, regulator‐ready options for LBG.

You will work at the intersection of existing and new international payment rails, DLT‐based settlement, FX, liquidity and controls, shaping when and how DLT based settlement and stablecoins genuinely add value — and when they don’t. The mandate is to translate structural shifts in payments into actionable insights, and business develop the initiatives that matter most over a multi‐year horizon. This includes developing buy, build and partner strategies.

What You’ll Lead
  • Stablecoins & Cross‐Border Payments – Practical Use‐Case Leadership

Be the subject‐matter expert for how stablecoins and tokenised money models could impact international payments across:

    • Cross‐border account‐to‐account payments
    • FX funding and prefunding models
    • Nostro / vostro liquidity management
    • Settlement speed, cut‐off times and time‐zone risk
    • Transparency, deductions, and reconciliation

Lead the definition, prioritisation and shaping of real use cases grounded in today’s international payments pain points — not hypothetical future states.

  • Experimentation & Proof‐of‐Value (Not Just Research)

Design and drive hands‐on experiments, pilots or structured proofs‐of‐value with internal teams and external partners to test:

    • Where stablecoins create measurable improvements vs current correspondent banking models
    • Implications for operations, controls, accounting, liquidity and intraday risk
    • Readiness for scale within a Tier 1 bank context

Ensure experiments produce clear learning outputs: what worked, what didn’t, and what would need to change to move from pilot → production.

  • Integration with International Payments Strategy

Act as the stablecoin specialist within LBG’s broader international payments strategy, ensuring insights feed directly into:

    • International Payments transformation programmes
    • Swift, instant payments and new‐rail participation decisions
    • FX, pricing, proposition and customer experience roadmaps

Help clarify where stablecoins complement existing rails and where they introduce unnecessary complexity or risk.

  • Risk, Regulation & Control Design

Work closely with Risk, Legal, Compliance, Finance and Treasury to:

    • Shape LBG’s position on regulatory models for stablecoins in cross‐border payments
    • Define early views on controls, safeguarding, reconciliation, dispute handling and failure scenarios
    • Ensure any experimentation is conducted in a safe, compliant, regulator‐engageable way

Translate external regulatory developments into clear internal implications, not abstract summaries.

  • Decision Support & Investment Pathways

Convert experimentation and market learning into:

    • Clear recommendations on lead vs follow vs wait decisions
    • Defined investment options and dependency maps
    • Realistic timelines and maturity assessments

Support senior decision‐makers with evidence‐based options, not advocacy.

  • Deep expertise in core payments (domestic/international rails, payment processing realities, controls, exceptions/servicing) including the payments value chain.
  • Commercial/strategic toolkit: hypothesis-led analysis, business case development, stakeholder influence, and narrative building.
  • Proven delivery experience – turning strategy and ideas into practice.
  • Sufficient technical understanding and background to lead feature teams, experimentation and Proof of Concepts.
