Job Summary
In this role, you’ll deliver highly advanced technical support for mainframe Db2 and its associated processes, tools, and utilities. You’ll help run and maintain services according to Group standards and policies, assist with investment‑funded work within mainframe environments (including out‑of‑hours support), and handle incident and problem resolution in complex environments.
Responsibilities
- Provide support for complex mainframe environments to tight timescales.
- Help drive strategy and design across the mainframe development and test estate.
- Own and drive the zDBA technology roadmap and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver.
- Implement standardisation and drive improvement initiatives within the team.
- Work collaboratively across Lab and Platform teams to develop, promote, and implement process initiatives.
- Ensure processes, governance, and procedures are rigorously adhered to.
Qualifications
- Extensive in‑depth expertise and knowledge of Db2 on z/OS.
- Expert‑level experience in performance monitoring and optimisation of Db2, including SQL tuning and buffer pool tuning, with the ability to recommend targeted improvements.
- Expert‑level experience governing and approving DDL changes, handling schema evolution, validating impact, and ensuring alignment to change‑control processes.
- Extensive experience leading resolution and troubleshooting of critical online systems.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for Senior Leadership.
- Experience supporting junior team members, providing coaching on Db2 fundamentals, performance tuning, utilities, and operational processes.
Preferred: 10+ years of experience as a z/OS Db2 DBA in a financial organisation.
