Overview

Lead Google Cloud Platform Engineer. Salary: £92,701 - £109,060. Location: Bristol, Leeds, Manchester or Halifax. Hours: Full-time. Working pattern: Hybrid, with at least two office days per week (roughly 40%). Flexible working options available. Responsibilities

  • Modernise technology platforms using public cloud that is secure, resilient, scalable, and developer‑friendly.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, architects and security teams to ensure the platform is reliable, compliant and easy to use.
  • Design, engineer and optimise enterprise‑scale GCP infrastructure and networking.
  • Develop and review Infrastructure as Code using Terraform / Terraform Cloud.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub, Jenkins and Harness.
  • Develop automation using Python, Bash and/or Groovy.
  • Own cloud services through their full lifecycle (design, build, run, improve).
  • Perform code reviews and help drive engineering quality and consistency.
  • Work collaboratively with architecture, security and software engineering teams.
  • Provide BAU operational support, including incident and problem management.
  • Mentor other engineers and support planning and technical decision‑making.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in production environments.
  • 5+ years’ experience designing and supporting cloud networking (VPC, Interconnect, Firewalls, DNS, NAT, IAM, VPC‑SC).
  • 3+ years’ experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • 3+ years’ experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience working with Kubernetes / GKE.
  • Experience in agile delivery environments (Scrum / Kanban, Jira, Confluence).
  • Strong understanding of platform reliability, security and automation.
  • Experience with large‑scale or hybrid GCP environments is a plus; experience with policy as code is a plus.
  • Experience using monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Dynatrace or Google Cloud Monitoring).
  • Google Cloud Professional certifications are advantageous.
