We are looking for an adaptable, innovative and highly motivated colleague to join our Trade Sales team within Commercial Banking Coverage (CBC), supporting businesses across Business & Commercial Banking (BCB).
Job Summary
As a Trade Sales Director you will help clients trade with confidence and achieve their growth ambitions by delivering tailored working‑capital and Trade Finance solutions that address complex commercial challenges.
You will be responsible for driving income and asset growth across your portfolio, identifying new business opportunities and building lasting relationships with clients and key market partners.
The role requires a strong external presence, commercial acumen and the ability to influence senior levels, both internally and externally.
Responsibilities
- Define the strategy for the region, working closely with key colleagues in Coverage and professional networks.
- Identify customer needs to develop and structure Trade solutions that meet clients’ working‑capital and risk‑management requirements.
- Act as product‑specialist lead for relationships within the portfolio of existing and target clients.
- Recognise and develop opportunities to expand client relationships using appropriate Trade solutions.
- Work alongside Coverage and other product specialists to deliver new to‑bank relationships.
- Prepare and submit credit applications in conjunction with Relationship teams and engage colleagues in product, sales support and risk to complete Trade transactions.
- Act as client point of contact for Trade, discussing technical and operational aspects of transactions.
- Deliver income and lending growth in line with team business plans by providing appropriate solutions to meet client needs.
- Actively manage risk across the portfolio and on new transactions, maintaining high standards of adherence to all risk, compliance and regulatory requirements to protect the bank’s reputation.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in Trade Sales, Trade Finance or Corporate Banking, with a proven track record of delivering business growth.
- Strong technical expertise across Trade Finance solutions, including Letters of Credit, Collections, Bonds, Guarantees and Indemnities.
- Advanced credit, risk and financial analysis capability, with sound commercial judgement.
- Proven success leading complex, high‑value client transactions from origination through to execution.
- Ability to build trusted relationships and influence senior partners across client and internal networks.
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with experience working across matrix teams to deliver client outcomes.
- Experience with line management of Associate Directors is a plus; a collaborative and empowering leadership style is required.
- Post‑graduate qualifications in economics, finance or management are desirable.
- Institute of Export Certified International Trade Advisor or equivalent is desirable.
