Job Description Job Title: Head of Protection Intermediary Distribution. Location: Remote with travel across the UK. Hours: Full-time. This opportunity goes beyond a typical senior sales role. It involves heading a major growth channel for Scottish Widows, expanding our presence in the protection market, and assisting more clients in securing their financial future. Lloyds Banking Group serves 26 million customers, yet fewer than 10% own an Insurance, Pension or Investment product with us. Across the UK, half of mortgage holders lack life cover and 9 in 10 people remain without critical illness cover. The potential to drive meaningful change is substantial. Reporting to the Protection Director, you'll be setting the direction for intermediary distribution and translating ambition into a clear commercial strategy. Leadership will be demonstrated by guiding the team and partners toward common goals.

Responsibilities

Your mandate Own and deliver the intermediary distribution strategy, with clear accountability for profitable growth, quality, persistency and market share. Shape the agenda, not simply complete it. Identify where we should compete, where we should invest and which opportunities will create the greatest customer and commercial value. Build and lead strategic relationships with the UK’s major protection intermediary businesses, securing stronger partnerships and panel positions where appropriate. Develop new distribution frameworks and market routes, collaborating closely with Halifax Intermediaries and other areas within Lloyds Banking Group. Use insight and management information to spot opportunities, make confident trade-offs and intervene early where performance is off track. Lead service recovery and complex partner issues, protecting customer outcomes, relationships and our commercial interests. Influence proposition, pricing, service and technology priorities by bringing a clear market and adviser perspective into Scottish Widows. Create a high-performing, commercially curious team that understands the strategy, owns outcomes and has the confidence to act.

How we expect you to lead

Create clarity - Concentrate on what is most important. Set priorities, make decisions, and clarify expectations, then communicate them clearly and promptly. Bring drive and passion - Be visible, ambitious and energising. Push boundaries responsibly and bring momentum to the work that matters! Build trust - Encourage others, celebrate accomplishments and build a space where people are comfortable to express ideas, explore, learn and grow. Function as a cohesive unit - Put collective success ahead of individual agendas. Collaborate generously and solve problems across boundaries. Own outcomes - Take accountability from strategy through to delivery. Make decisions, remove blockers and surface risks early. Challenge with respect - Be direct, curious and constructive. Challenge assumptions and established ways of working while maintaining positive intent.

What you’ll need

Deep knowledge of the UK protection intermediary market, including the relevant regulatory, technical and legislative environment. A strong track record of delivering growth and translating strategy into measurable outcomes. Recognised reputation and solid market presence, highlighting excellent senior relationship leadership and an ability to influence with impact. Experience of leading, developing and empowering a team to deliver stretching commercial and customer outcomes. Strategic judgement, with the capacity to recognise opportunities, focus investment, and make definite choices. Strong commercial and analytical skills, applying insight and data to inform decisions and oversee performance. The confidence and tenacity to challenge the status quo, resolve complex issues and remove blockers to growth. An articulate, authentic and engaging leadership style that brings energy, ambition and personality.

It would be useful if you also bring

Knowledge of Scottish Widows’ primary competitors and current developments in the Protection market. Understanding of the mortgage and wealth markets and how they can support our wider growth ambitions.
