About this opportunity

Join our Digital Finance Lab and help shape the future of payments and digital assets at Lloyds Banking Group! We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help design, build and evolve modern payment solutions that are secure, scalable and centred around customer needs. You'll work within the Payments Services Platform team, contributing to services that enable millions of customers and businesses to move money safely, quickly and confidently. This is an opportunity to combine deep engineering expertise with emerging technologies, helping us explore new payment capabilities and create value beyond today's products and services!

What you'll be doing

  • Designing, building and enhancing payment services within a collaborative agile feature team.
  • Delivering scalable, resilient software using modern architectures such as microservices and event-driven systems.
  • Developing cloud-native solutions and improving platform reliability, performance and security.
  • Working with product, engineering and industry partners to shape future payment solutions and customer outcomes.
  • Supporting software lifecycle activities including testing, automation, deployment and continuous improvement.
  • Contributing to engineering best practice, mentoring colleagues and helping to build technical capability across the team.

About the team

The Payments Services Platform enables customers and businesses across Lloyds Banking Group to move money securely and efficiently. We work closely with regulators, industry partners and engineering teams across the Group to deliver reliable, compliant and innovative payment solutions. You'll be joining a team that values collaboration, learning and continuous improvement, where engineers are empowered to experiment, challenge thinking and influence the future direction of our technology.

What you'll need

We're looking for people who bring a blend of technical capability, collaboration and problem‑solving skills. Key skills include:

  • Software Engineering – substantial experience designing, developing and maintaining high-quality software solutions using Java and modern engineering practices.
  • DevOps – experience supporting automated delivery pipelines, deployment automation and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
  • Technical Delivery – ability to deliver reliable, scalable software solutions while balancing customer, operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Problem Solving – able to analyse complex technical challenges and identify practical, scalable solutions.
  • Collaboration – experience working effectively within cross-functional agile teams to deliver shared outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Management – ability to build strong working relationships across engineering, product and external partner communities.
  • Kafka, Quarkus or similar distributed application technologies.
  • Distributed ledger technologies (DLT), blockchain or DAML.
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or other public cloud platforms.
  • React, TypeScript or modern frontend development frameworks.
  • Experience working on globally distributed or high-scale payment platforms.
  • Knowledge of payment processing, digital assets or financial services technology.
