Our client, a well‑established and forward‑thinking Exeter‑based business, are seeking a Finance Assistant to join their friendly and supportive team on a part‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term contract, three days per week. As the Finance Assistant, you will work closely with the Finance Manager and wider team, taking ownership of a variety of transactional finance tasks that support the smooth and efficient running of daily operations.
The responsibilities:
- Support the preparation and review of management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
- Carry out month‑end procedures including general ledger reviews, journal entries, and intercompany recharges.
- Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns for a portfolio of companies each month.
- Conduct weekly bank reconciliations and manage intercompany transactions.
- Coordinate and process monthly payment runs for suppliers and subcontractors.
- Oversee purchase, sales, and subcontractor ledger activities, maintaining up‑to‑date records.
- Monitor the nominal ledger for coding accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.
- Process staff expense claims and reconcile monthly customer statements.
- Manage credit control activities, working closely with the sales team to oversee deposits and maintain accurate master data and CIS records.
- Take responsibility for external compliance and communication tasks, including Companies House submissions, HMRC queries, and responding to finance mailbox and telephone enquiries.
The Candidate:
- Previous experience in a similar position, with a good understanding of transactional processes.
- Confident user of accounting software and Excel, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- AAT qualified or currently studying towards the qualification.
- Xero experience would be desirable but not essential.
