THE ROLE
A newly created opportunity for a lawyer to assist the busy Contracts Director in providing legal and project related support to the practice.
You will be an essential part of a very small team and have the chance to utilise your legal knowledge and apply it in a practical way with project teams across the practice, working collaboratively with project leaders.
Managing your own portfolio, you will demonstrate and develop your legal skills by providing advice and support to the practice (including their international studios) in the following areas:
- Commenting on project appointments for Architectural, Urban Design, Information Manager, CDM and BR PDs (including collateral warranties, deeds of novation, scope of services)- seeking solicitor/insurers advice as required
- Negotiating appointments with client/client's solicitors
- Monitoring progress of appointment documents
- Interpreting legal documents and liaising with Project Leaders across all entities to assist their understanding of the scope and terms of their project appointment
- Advising on commercial risks associated with major construction projects
- Lending support to less experienced job runners in particular with contractual matters and on forms of building contract
- Providing support to the practice's external legal advisors and insurance brokers in the event of any disputes
- Advising project teams on procurement contractual matters
- Liaising with a variety of teams including project teams, IT, HR, Finance, Submissions/Bids.
- Assisting with insurance renewals for both commercial and professional indemnity policies across all studios
ABOUT YOU
A lawyer with 3pqe+ and experience in construction law gained within private practice or an in-house legal team, specifically in relation to design consultants with an understanding of their role and responsibilities within the wider construction team.
- Can-do attitude with an enthusiasm to connect with the project teams and their work.
- Ability to make sound judgements based on good insights and analytical rigour.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong analytical, legal research and drafting capabilities.
- Highly organised, detail oriented and a natural planner.
- Sound knowledge of all industry specific contracts, regulations, and procedures.
- Detailed understanding of the construction industry as a whole, not just the legal aspects.
- The ability to work with a range of legal and non-legal professionals.
- The ability to break down complex concepts into everyday terms.
- Relationship building and client facing skills.
- A knack for anticipating future issues.
- Pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
