We are looking for an Assistant Herdsperson for a 200-cow farm in Thorpe Le Soken, Essex.
Farm Overview:
- 200 Holstein Friesians
- Milked 2x a day through a 32-point parlour with ADF, auto ID and separation
- The herd block calve in the summer and average 10,000 litres
- Technology such as Cow Manager and Uniform is available to assist with the herd management
- The dairy herd forms a part of a 220-hectare mixed enterprise farm, with all grass and maize silage for the cows grown in house
The Job:
- Regular milking - average of 7 days milking a fortnight
- Calving cows; ensuring optimal cow and calf health by following best practice
- Herd health management with the aid of Cow Manager
- Youngstock care, feeding and monitoring growth
- Parlour maintenance
- AI and foot trimming experience is preferable, but training will/can be provided
- Ability to work on their own and as part of a team
The Package:
- A starting salary of between £32,000 and £35,000 depending on experience
- Accommodation will be included and provided by the farm; council tax will also be paid
- 80 days off per annum
Location:
The unit is located in North-East Essex, 1 mile from Thorpe-le-Soken with an OFSTED rated good primary school and secondary school and an assortment of shops. Colchester is 18 miles and there are good rail links to London.
