LKL Farming is a family farming business based in East Yorkshire growing crops and producing high welfare pigs outdoors. We are seeking an enthusiastic and versatile individual with good observational skills to join our small team near Scunthorpe in the role of Pig Stockperson. This position involves a variety of tasks focused on the welfare of our animals and the productivity of the herd. Working on a 3 week cycle, you will be expected to learn the production process and develop the skills to carry out the key tasks within that process.

Key Tasks:

  • Feeding pigs using tractor and trailer or tote bin and bucket
  • Daily inspection and health check of stock, providing treatment as required
  • Maintenance of electric fencing
  • Maintenance of water supply, including bowsering water in cold weather
  • Bedding up tents and huts with straw, using tractor and fore-end loader and manual handling
  • Carrying out Artificial Insemination on breeding animals
  • Caring for piglets
  • Weaning (early start, once every 3 weeks)
  • Farm and equipment maintenance
  • Record keeping
  • Machinery operation
  • Machinery maintenance

Pay and benefits:

  • Salary starting from £28,000 depending on experience
  • Performance bonus typically worth £1500-£4000 on top of salary, based on herd productivity
  • Pension (3% employer contribution)
  • Monday to Friday
  • Alternate weekends (half days)
  • 46 hours per week annual average
  • 31 days paid holiday
