Your Role

As a Credit Controller at LKAB Minerals UK, you will play a key role in safeguarding the company’s cashflow, ensuring that customer accounts are managed effectively and that outstanding debt is collected in a timely, professional, and controlled manner. Working within the Central Finance team, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate customer ledgers, resolving account queries, and supporting the wider business in managing credit risk.

Your role will focus on the full credit control cycle, including customer account setup, credit checks, debt monitoring, proactive customer contact, dispute resolution, and cash allocation. You will contribute to maintaining high-quality financial information that supports month-end close activities and provides clear visibility of debtor performance across the business.

This position supports the financial operations of multiple UK manufacturing sites, as well as giving credit management assistance to other group entities based in the EU, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and clarity in all credit-related activities. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing improvements in processes and controls, helping to strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of the transactional finance function.

As a Credit Controller, you will be part of the Central Finance pillar — the operational core of our finance function. This team is responsible for delivering accurate, efficient, and well-controlled transactional processing across the organisation. You will work within a motivated and supportive group that values clarity, consistency, and continuous improvement.

You will be part of the Transaction Processing Team, led by the Head of Transaction Processing, who is committed to developing the team, embedding best-practice processes, and fostering a culture where individuals feel empowered to take ownership of their work. This environment provides a strong foundation for learning and development, offering exposure to high-quality financial processes and opportunities to contribute to improvements that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the transactional finance function.

Responsibilities and Key Work Tasks

  • Credit Control & Debt Management: Monitoring customer accounts to ensure timely collection of balances, proactively chase overdue payments, maintain accurate and up-to-date records and escalation of high-risk or long-overdue accounts.
  • Customer Account Administration: Setting up customer accounts, ensuring all required documentation and credit checks are completed. Review and update customer credit limits, maintain accurate customer master data.
  • Query Resolution & Customer Support: Investigate and resolve invoice disputes, short payments, and account discrepancies and provide customers with copy invoices, statements, and supporting documentation as required.
  • Cash Allocation & Ledger Maintenance: Allocate customer payments promptly and accurately, reconcile bank postings and customer accounts and support month-end close activities by providing debtor analysis and ensuring ledger accuracy.
  • Reporting & Continuous Improvement: Prepare aged debt reports and highlight areas of concern to management, support the monitoring of debtor performance and cashflow forecasting and contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and credit risk management.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build positive relationships with customers and internal teams.
  • Comfortable managing challenging conversations and negotiating payment arrangements professionally.
  • Good IT literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with finance or ERP systems.
  • Experience in credit control or a similar finance role is desirable, though not essential for motivated applicants with strong communication and administrative skills.
  • An interest in developing further finance knowledge or pursuing a recognised accounting or credit management qualification (e.g., CICM) is advantageous.
