Our client is a leading international main contractor delivering some of Europe's most advanced hyperscale and mission-critical data centre developments. They are seeking an experienced Lifting Appointed Person / Temporary Works Manager to join the delivery team on a landmark £10bn hyperscale data centre campus in Blyth, North East England. This flagship development, one of the largest data centre campuses in Europe, will be delivered over the next decade and represents one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will take ownership of all lifting operations and temporary works management across a major phase of the project, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient execution throughout the construction lifecycle. Working closely with project leadership, engineering teams, logistics, subcontractors and specialist suppliers, you will coordinate complex lifting operations, oversee temporary works procedures and ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with statutory legislation, industry standards and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Appointed Person for all lifting operations in accordance with LOLER and BS7121
- Plan, coordinate and approve routine, complex and critical lifting operations across the project
- Develop, review and authorise lifting plans, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
- Manage all temporary works activities in accordance with BS5975 and company procedures
- Maintain the Temporary Works Register and oversee the approval process for all temporary works designs
- Coordinate Temporary Works Designers, Temporary Works Coordinators and site delivery teams
- Ensure all cranes, lifting equipment and accessories are correctly selected, certified and maintained
- Coordinate tower crane operations, mobile crane activities and specialist heavy lifting operations across multiple work fronts
- Carry out inspections and audits to ensure compliance with lifting and temporary works procedures
- Work closely with construction, logistics and engineering teams to plan safe and efficient project delivery
- Identify project risks and implement practical engineering solutions to maintain programme performance
- Lead coordination meetings with subcontractors, lifting specialists and project stakeholders
- Promote an industry-leading health and safety culture across all lifting and temporary works activities
- Support commissioning, logistics planning and project delivery through to final completion
Requirements
- Proven experience as an Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) on major construction projects
- Strong experience managing Temporary Works within complex construction environments
- Previous experience delivering hyperscale data centres, mission-critical facilities, pharmaceutical, industrial or major infrastructure projects
- Comprehensive knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, BS7121 and BS5975
- Experience coordinating tower cranes, crawler cranes, mobile cranes and specialist heavy lifting operations
- Strong understanding of temporary works design coordination, approvals and inspection processes
- Excellent planning, organisational and stakeholder management skills
- CPCS Appointed Person qualification (A61 or equivalent)
- Temporary Works Coordinator qualification highly desirable
- Engineering, Construction Management or related technical qualification preferred
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to coordinate multiple contractors
