Our client is a leading international main contractor delivering some of Europe's most advanced hyperscale and mission-critical data centre developments. They are seeking an experienced Civils Construction Manager to join the delivery team on a landmark £10bn hyperscale data centre campus in Blyth, North East England. This flagship development, one of the largest data centre campuses in Europe, will be delivered over the next decade and represents one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing all civil engineering works across a major phase of the project, ensuring safe, high-quality and programme-driven delivery from enabling works through to final completion. Working closely with Project Managers, site engineers, subcontractors, design teams and client representatives, you will lead the delivery of complex civils packages, coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces and ensure all works are executed in line with programme, technical specifications and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of all civil engineering works across the project
- Manage subcontractors, supervisors and engineering teams to ensure safe and efficient project delivery
- Oversee earthworks, drainage, roads, utilities, foundations, reinforced concrete and external works
- Monitor programme performance and implement recovery plans where required
- Ensure all works comply with drawings, specifications, quality standards and client requirements
- Coordinate interfaces between civils, CSA, MEP, logistics and commissioning teams
- Manage construction sequencing, site resources and short-term planning activities
- Review and resolve technical queries, RFIs and design issues with engineering and design teams
- Drive health, safety and environmental performance across all site activities
- Oversee inspections, quality assurance, testing, snagging and handover activities
- Produce progress reports and attend client, subcontractor and internal coordination meetings
- Support commercial teams with change management, variations and programme reporting
- Identify construction risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain programme objectives
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Civils Construction Manager on major construction projects
- Previous experience delivering hyperscale data centres, major industrial, infrastructure, energy or large-scale commercial developments
- Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering construction methods and sequencing
- Experience managing large civils subcontract packages and multidisciplinary site teams
- Excellent understanding of earthworks, reinforced concrete, drainage, utilities and external works
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
- SMSTS and CSCS qualifications
- Experience working within complex, fast-paced construction environments
