Mechanical Project Engineer Location: Slough, Buckinghamshire Sector: Hyperscale Data Centres | Mission Critical Construction Project: Major Data Centre Development Our client is a leading project management consultancy providing specialist project and engineering services across the mission-critical and data centre sectors. They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join their team on a major data centre project in Slough, Buckinghamshire. This is an ongoing freelance opportunity , with the successful candidate providing technical oversight of mechanical construction activities on behalf of the project management consultancy. The role will involve working closely with the main contractor, MEP subcontractors, design consultants and wider project team to ensure works are delivered safely, to specification and in accordance with the project programme.
Responsibilities
Provide technical oversight and monitoring of mechanical construction activities. Review mechanical drawings, specifications, technical submissions and installation details. Monitor the quality and progress of mechanical works against the project programme. Coordinate closely with the main contractor, MEP subcontractors, consultants and client team. Review and respond to RFIs, technical queries, design changes and construction issues. Carry out regular site inspections to verify installations comply with approved designs and specifications.
Monitor mechanical installation, testing and commissioning activities. Identify technical, quality and programme issues and ensure they are appropriately addressed. Review method statements, inspection and test plans and other technical documentation. Monitor subcontractor performance and provide regular progress updates to the project management team. Attend project, design, coordination and progress meetings as required. Assist with the management and resolution of defects, snagging and outstanding works.
Ensure relevant documentation, records, as-built information and handover requirements are completed. Maintain a strong focus on quality, health and safety and compliance throughout the project. Provide technical advice and engineering support to the project management team as required.
Requirements
Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering. Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer, Site Engineer or similar site-based engineering role. Strong mechanical building services experience, ideally within data centres or other mission-critical environments. Good understanding of HVAC, chilled water, pipework, ventilation and associated mechanical systems. Experience overseeing mechanical installation, testing and commissioning.
Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, method statements and inspection and test plans. Experience working with main contractors, MEP subcontractors and design consultants. Strong understanding of quality assurance, construction standards and health & safety requirements. Excellent communication and reporting skills. Ability to work independently and effectively within a client/PMC project environment. Available for an ongoing freelance assignment.
