We are seeking an experienced Corporate & Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Underwriter to join a growing Credit function based in West London. This is a key role responsible for assessing, structuring, and managing a diverse portfolio of corporate, CRE, buy-to-let (BTL), and personal lending proposals.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Credit Officer, you will play a pivotal role in underwriting and executing lending transactions, while ensuring robust risk management and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite Corporate, CRE, personal, and BTL loan applications, ensuring effective execution of transactions
- Assess and process lending proposals from the business team, including presenting cases to the Credit/Sanctioning Committee
- Manage end-to-end credit processes, including liaising with clients, introducers, solicitors, and valuation firms
- Conduct annual reviews of the existing credit portfolio, ensuring compliance with covenants and lending terms
- Monitor loan portfolios, identifying early warning signs, arrears, or potential problem accounts, and make recommendations
- Work closely with Originations teams to determine clear rationale for approving or declining applications
- Present proposals to Risk and other internal committees for new and existing products
- Ensure all credit decisions meet regulatory standards and align with Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles
- Support the Chief Credit Officer across broader Credit Department activities
- Undertake site visits where required
Key Skills & Experience
- 6-10 years' experience in credit underwriting or assessing lending proposals
- Strong knowledge of the UK lending environment and regulatory framework
- Experience across Corporate and Commercial Real Estate lending (essential)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical and risk assessment skills
