About the Role
An established Design & Build business is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with a strong background in commercial interiors, workplace fit-out, or the wider construction sector.
This is a relationship-focused role centred on developing long-term partnerships rather than transactional sales.
You will identify new opportunities, build trusted relationships with clients and industry professionals, and work closely with internal design, estimating and delivery teams to develop tailored solutions.
Success in this role comes from understanding clients' businesses, identifying opportunities early, and becoming a trusted advisor throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Build Long-Term Client Relationships
- Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing clients.
- Engage with occupiers, landlords, project managers, architects and consultants early in the project lifecycle.
- Understand clients' business objectives, workplace challenges and project requirements.
- Build trust and encourage repeat business through exceptional relationship management.
- Generate New Business Opportunities
- Identify Design & Build, refurbishment and fit-out opportunities across sectors including commercial, industrial, education and healthcare.
- Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline through networking, referrals, market intelligence and industry events.
- Qualify opportunities and develop strategies to maximise success rates.
- Manage opportunities from initial enquiry through to contract award.
- Collaborate with Internal Teams
- Work closely with design, estimating and operational teams to develop tailored client solutions.
- Ensure client requirements are communicated effectively throughout the bid process.
- Contribute ideas during project development to maximise value.
- Support seamless project handovers while maintaining strong client relationships.
- Develop Strategic Partnerships
- Build relationships with architects, project managers, consultants, developers and supply chain partners.
- Identify opportunities for long-term collaboration and repeat business.
- Represent the business professionally at networking events and industry functions.
- Market & Business Development
- Monitor market trends and identify emerging opportunities.
- Promote the company's Design & Build capabilities and collaborative approach.
- Support marketing initiatives through client engagement and project case studies.
- Performance & Reporting
- Maintain an accurate sales pipeline using CRM software.
- Provide regular forecasts and pipeline updates to the leadership team.
- Work towards agreed KPIs covering opportunity generation, client engagement and secured revenue.
About You
Essential
- Proven business development experience within Design & Build, commercial fit-out, workplace consultancy or the construction sector.
- Strong understanding of the Design & Build process from enquiry through to project delivery.
- Excellent relationship-building and networking skills.
- Commercial awareness with strong negotiation abilities.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
Desirable
