We run the world's largest independent consumer review platform and are looking to hire a Legal Counsel to join our Public Affairs & Regulatory team. You will help maintain Trustpilot's reputation as a trusted and compliant platform, navigating a complex regulatory environment and supporting external stakeholders in trusting our platform's content and our commitment to doing the right thing. Your primary focus is to contribute to Trustpilot’s position as a trusted platform by effectively addressing regulatory and compliance challenges across markets.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring, reviewing and analysing new laws and regulations in areas such as online safety, digital content and consumer protection in key markets (UK, EU, US).
  • Ensuring streamlined implementation of new legislative requirements and maintenance of regulatory obligations, with legal support and analysis on an ad hoc basis.
  • Identifying and recommending strategic improvements based on knowledge of Trustpilot’s product and operations to ensure products and services are trusted and comply with legal requirements.
  • Independently forming well-reasoned and pragmatic recommendations for action after detailed analysis of ambiguous legal issues.
  • Delivering clear, actionable items for stakeholders by translating complex legal language into easily understandable messaging for internal teams.
  • Establishing an environment of Trust By Design by providing direction, support and challenge to product, design and engineering teams.
  • Supporting the Public Affairs team on advocacy initiatives, including consultation responses to regulators and policymakers, drafting amendments to legislative proposals, determining policy positions and collaborating with industry groups.

Who You Are

  • You have a right to practice law in Scotland, England & Wales or Denmark, with 3-6 years post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in a non-contentious regulatory role, collaborating with product and engineering teams to deliver customer-focused products.
  • Comprehensive legal skills: analytical, drafting, negotiation and communication.
  • Growth mindset with openness to continuous learning and new ideas.
  • Bias for action and a focus on outcomes.
  • Ability to work at pace, delivering multiple tasks and deadlines accurately.
  • Enthusiasm for regulatory issues and helping internal stakeholders understand them.

Desirable Extras

  • In-house experience in technology or a regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of European, UK and US regulatory frameworks relevant to online platforms or technology services.
  • Interest in politics and current affairs and awareness of the regulatory environment.
