CGE - Music Teacher in Livingston

The Music Teacher (Elementary) will implement an Elementary Music instructional program during the school day. The incumbent will provide performance experience both inside and outside of the regular school day for children enrolled at the campus. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned
• Music EC-12 certification preferred
• Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain progress with group and individual instruction, practices, and performances
• Manage student behavior in all parts of the school building and grounds, both during and outside of school hours, and in compliance with the Livingston ISD Student/Parent Handbook
• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective teaching and learning of elementary music
• Teach appropriate elementary music pedagogy, including singing skills

Additional Requirements:

• Regular attendance is an essential job function and requirement.

Experience:

• One-year student teaching or approved internship

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies:

• Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
• Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
• Conduct an assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
• Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
• Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
• Plan and assign work to the instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

Student Growth and Development:

• Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
• Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
• Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
• Be a positive role model for students, and support the mission of the school district.

Promote Music Performance:

• Schedule and conduct at least one evening public performance or show on campus each year with the students enrolled in each grade level.
• Implement a music program for 1st thru 5th-grade students.
• Participate in all LISD-sponsored events, including the LISD Honor Choir, as well as other required activities, encouraging student participation in all events related to the instructional program, conducting rehearsals before and/or after school in the fall and spring semesters to provide adequate preparation for concerts, and present at least one evening, public performance each semester.
• Provide proper student supervision during and after all activities until all students have left the area.

Classroom Management and Organization:

• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
• Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Communication:

• Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Professional Growth and Development:

• Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
• Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).

• Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED).
• Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
• Motion: Frequent walking.
• Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move the textbooks and classroom equipment.
• Environment: Work inside; may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
