The predicted salary is between 125000 - 125000 £ per year.
Salary: 125,000 £ plus Distant Islands Allowance (2,997 £ per annum pro rata). A relocation allowance of up to 8,000 £ is also available. Grade: CO 34‑36. Permanent full‑time post (37.0 hours per week, 52.18 weeks per year). Relocation package applies. Interview expenses within the UK will be paid. You must be able to travel across Shetland at short notice; public transport is limited.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional oversight and strategic advice to ensure effective governance, risk management, statutory compliance, and adherence to the Council’s code of conduct.
- Lead the broad service portfolio, including Legal and Committee, Internal Audit, Digital and Technology Services, Procurement, Commissioning and Contracts, and Risk, Safety, Insurance and Civil Contingencies.
- Advise elected representatives and the Corporate Management Team on legal matters, policy development and decision‑making.
- Maintain an outcomes‑focused approach, fostering relationships with elected members, partner organisations and other stakeholders.
- Communicate complex legal and governance issues clearly and professionally to various audiences.
