Overview
Position: Modern Apprenticeship in Community Care Resources at Shetland Islands Council.
Sector: Social Care.
Responsibilities
- Work within residential care teams to support elderly adults, adults with mental health issues, and adults living with learning disabilities or autism.
- Provide person‑centred support following legislation and guidelines.
- Attend to physical, social, and emotional needs of customers in residential accommodation.
- Assist with daily living activities and maintain a safe environment.
- Support customers 24‑hour services using a shift rota, including evenings and weekends.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Interested in working with people and have a caring nature and good communication skills.
- Reliable, honest, and non‑judgemental.
- Willing to become a fully qualified Social Care Worker.
- Required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) upon commencement.
- Required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or complete an update prior to a formal offer.
- Will study for SVQ Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 6 via Shetland College.
Salary & Working Hours
- 35 hours per week (fewer hours available on request).
- Shift rota system including evenings and weekends; additional hourly rate for weekend work.
- 2‑year apprenticeship with location‑based pay and a Distant Islands Allowance of £1.5523 per hour.
- Grade: SLGLW / AB.

- Post location: Overtonlea Care Services, Levenwick, Shetland.
- Apprenticeship: 52.18 weeks per year, 35.0 hours per week.
- Holiday and relocation package: not applicable.
- Interview expenses will be paid as part of recruitment.
