An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Teacher of English to join our team at our excellently resourced Anderson High School, Lerwick. Our beautiful location offers great opportunities for learning and we benefit from an excellently resourced school, at the heart of a caring, supportive community.

Anderson High School is a six year school, serving the Shetland community, with associated primary schools and intake from Fair Isle and Foula for up to six years. The school serves pupils in Shetland for S5 and S6, with transport arrangements into Lerwick and Halls of Residence for those who cannot travel daily. In August 2024, 1028 pupils were enrolled. The Head Teacher is Mr Robin Calder.

We are seeking a Teacher of English to join the team at Anderson High School to support learners in a well-resourced environment. The role involves contributing to a positive learning culture and delivering English education that supports inclusion and achievement for all students.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • You must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) prior to starting in post. If not currently registered, indicate in your application whether you have sought confirmation of future GTCS registration.
  • Qualifying experience and attributes include vision, energy, initiative, good communication skills and self-discipline.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made.
  • We welcome applications from flexible route probationers.

Additional Information:

  • The grade of this post is TCHR Salary shown includes Distant Islands Allowance of £2,997 per annum (pro rata).
  • Temporary Full Time post for 35.0 hours per week.
  • Temporary contract for approximately 6 months.
  • We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland.
  • We are happy to talk flexible working.
